After lunch drowsiness...

I am usually well rested (7-8 hrs of sleep), and can get through the mornings fine. But, after eating lunch, invaraiably an hour or so later I get so tired! I know its not unique to me, so what do you guys do avoid this. Is it something with the type of food I am eating? I don't drink caffeine, so thats not an option.

Have a power bar or even a candy bar for a quick sugar fix. Also, carbs will eventually turn into sugar but not quick enough...so stay clear of carbs for lunch, and focus on protien.

As has been previously suggested, eat fewer carbs and avoid foods like turkey that raise your seratonin and make you sleepy.

Eating more frequent, lighter meals throughout the day helps keep your metabolism up too.

Eat multiple smaller meals during the day.

<--- (sleepy after two huge pizza slices, needs to follow his own advice)

I have the exact same problem. I notice I only get it when I'm at work, sitting and just staring @ the computer (a la Office Space). I also noticed that it happens more when I have a big lunch with loads of carbs. Pasta or rice or other heavy stuff.

Try eating a smaller portion during lunch, and just have snacks when you get hungry again after lunch. Your body shouldn't use all that effort to digest the food and you should be alert.

I've tried playing music in the background, etc. and that's the only solution that continually works for me 🙂

drink cold water and take a walk around the office.

Having the same problem....that's what I just did. It's working so far. 🙂

Edit: Although, there is something to be said for a 20 minute power nap.

hahah i forgot to mention that i work, so napping and video games (although an attractive solution) are not an option. i drink plenty of water all day long... usually 24-48 ozs, plus 2 cups of tea. i will try cutting out some of the carbs and see if it makes a difference. i dont mind being tired really, but not being able to nap and just feeling zoned out when i should be able to focus is annoying - especially bc i know im not really tired.

...and if that doesn't help, try asking your doctor if you have mild narcolepsy 🙂 He'll prolly prescribe some sort of anti-sleeping medicine 😉

Eat a meat, lettuce and oil salad at lunch. That'll keep your blood sugar from f*cking with you throughout the day.
