After Iraq, would you support a war on North Korea?

I personally think that it will be deadly to attack North Korea.

If an attack is planned and launched against North Korea, would you support it? I sure hope not.

No way. There's no way I'm going to support any superpower going around the world picking fights with countries because it wants to over and over again (Iran? Syria? etc.) - especially also because I believe there's no way the US will achieve either UN/NATO support for this nor will it achieve a coalition nearly as large as for Iraq. And! (there are so many reasons) the effects of starting a war there may well be more dangerous than not.

I have some faith in Bush administration that they will know better than attacking North Korea, but I'm still afraid that maybe they might, and somehow justify it.

And I'm scared to death about the thought of almost the entire North Korean artillery being dumped in Seoul. 50% of the South Korean population live there. Mostly in high-rise buildings. I believe around 20 million people including the suburban areas. And the world will watch a city that closely resembles a major First World commercial centre getting bombarded and turning into ashes.

It is a horrific site and I cannot imagine witnessing such a thing. If there is any attempt to attack North Korea, I hope that people think twice.

BTW, this is not purely my speculation. Bombardment of Seoul has a 99% chance that it WILL happen in case of any major conflict in the peninsula. I confirmed this with a specialist on North Korea at work too.

Since the "yes's" are currently winning (although slightly early days yet ;) ) can we please have some feedback from those who voted "yes"?

Cheers,

Andy

I forgot to vote myself so I tied it 2-2 with a "no" vote. :)

To all you "yes" people, I seriously would like some words. If you were joking around, this is serious matter. It's not funny.

The North Koreans will shoot back, and they have convenient fixed ground targets (Seoul) to shoot at. That pretty much answers your question.

My wife and I are waiting for an adoption referral (our fourth, yikes) from Korea in the next couple of months, so stuff like this always makes me nervous. I don't think Bush will pre-emptively go after the North, but you never know what might happen to set something off.

It breaks my heart to see those starving North Korean kids, because they remind me of my own kids, but Bush's strategy of "shock, awe and democracy" is the wrong way to go. He has these visions of crowds cheering in the streets, but we don't really understand countries who are former colonies, like Iraq and Korea. Maybe their own ba$tard is better to them than our ba$tard.

We need a better answer, but I don't know where we're going to get it from.

I would not support a war at this time against North Korea. If they give reason in the future, then I may support war...

But right now, no.

NK has their own problems, and supplying terrorists are not one of them so we wont attack, Iran fits the bill more so than any other country...

NK hasn't given good enough reason for us to go to war with them unlike Iraq.

No way, the Koreans are a different kettle of fish altogether. Iraq is smalltime compared to this nation. The Koreans, like most of the oriental-style countries, are h*rd bastards,, with no give in them. Theyd do whatever it takes to win at whatever cost. The determination and willpower of these guys as well as their willingness to die is frightening... :Q

I say we take out Castro once and for all. No one likes him either. And then we can dredge up all that Elio Gonzalez stuff again, too.

I say we let South Korea handle North Korea since they want us out of the region. Besides, North Korea is a much bigger threat to Japan, China, and SK than it will ever be to the USA.

NK is only a danger to our spy planes. :D

North Korea won't attack the United States, China, Japan, or anyone else. They lost the spotlight when this Iraq thing started last year and are desperately trying to get it back. North Korea recieves more aid in foodstuffs each year than ANY other country, and the United States is the biggest benefactor. Since we cut that aid off there are literally hundreds of thousands of North Koreans starving. While they may have nuclear weapons, I seriously doubt even an insane leader would use them against anyone. Just my thoughts.

I think it might be hypocritical if we don't at least do something with N.K. perhaps open another dialogue.

They do export weapons to the middle east.

I'll give the UN first shot at NK before going to war. That's one that needs a multi-national coalition to make sure China stays out of it.

I do not think North Korea wants to fight the US. There has been a lot of sabre-rattling lately because they want the US to give them aid. If you remember the developments that happened before all this, the North Koreans wanted the US to sign a non-aggression pact with them, since N. Korea is in bad economic shape and they need to spend their money on power stations, food, and things like that.

I think this "activity" in North Korea is just a ploy to get us to the bargaining table, and we're not falling for it. There's no real crisis between the US and N. Korea right now.

Nope. I would work a deal out with China where they can have Taiwan (we wouldn't stand in their way) in return for getting rid of Kim Chi or what ever the hell his name is in NK.
