after going out of beta, will GMAIL have POP3 access?

has google talked about this or has anyone heard anything? anyone know if gmail will have pop3 access later on? and if so, will they charge extra for it?

thanks

i think that would defeat the purpose (targeted advertising)

google isn't doing this because they love you, they want to make $$$

because to do that, they would have to monitor all the email... and that would cause a LOT of users to not use the service

by running the whole program on java, they can still use keyword selection similar to how adwords/adsense work, but with out actually getting "into" the email...

i really don't forse google giving out pop control, it will most likely stay web based

gee my theory of "even if there's an official gmail thread, people will still be retarded and make their own" is correct.

that thread's overrun with people giving and (mostly) requesting gmail invites. no one's going to look in it for something like this.

but anyway, with this pop3 program, does it keep the e-mails on the server, or are they gone once you download them?

typo

everything stays on the server. even if you send a message using outlook it goes into your gmail sent mail box. nifty program, 10/10 so far. ok maybe 9, cause of a few bugs.

Sorry for the noob question but why go with the pop3 access?
Some people might go with POP3 because they don't really need the extra space so they'll take all the messages offline and read them on Outlook OR some might leave EVERY message on GMAIL and just take messages off of GMAIL without deleting it off of the server.

This kind of stuff would get completely lost in a thread that long.

okay, one more question (not really on topic but I wouldn't dare create another thread):

is there any reason I shouldn't use gmail as my primary address? for paypal, ebay, etc. it's no less secure than anything else, right? wrong? :s

*cough*

that pop goes the gmail thing kinda works. it won't get messages already read, and doesn't download whole conversations. but it's a good start
