Will google be making a messenger service to compete with MSN messenger, Yahoo Messenger etc?

They should, because there is PLENTY to improve upon....

Opinions...?

I was wondering the same thing. I wonder if they would mine all of your messages and have associated advertisements pop up for you?

I'd hate that.

I'm open to another messenger program though, so long as it doesn't rub ads in my face all the time (like aim has been doing about once a day for the past few weeks). I don't mind the stationary ad, but the ones with noise and video bug me.

The thing with messanger programs is would people really switch over to it?

If it had better features, people like us on this board would but I doubt I could convince even half of my friends to switch from AIM. Most people just use a messanger program to talk. They aren't going to switch for extra bells in whistles.

Millions and millions of people use AIM. My buddy list is maxed out. I have no reason to switch to another protocol...I'm open to other clients though, I <3 Trillian.

Just use AIM Ad Hack to get rid of all the ads. That's what I do. But I've tried to get people to switch from AIM to something else. Pretty much impossible. AIM has the instant messenging with a choke hold.

i'm sure if google could, they'd make an all-in-one client that will also enable you to talk to gmail members AND aim/yahoo/msn/icq users

It would be cool if they intergrated the messenger with gmails storage abiltiy. Kinda a p2p/chat network.

AS in:
sdd says: Have you heard that new song BLAHBLAH
sugarmomma: Yeah here let me send it
< client grabs it from gmail storage>
