Hey guys...well, I decided to move my pc into the closest (ok...no obvious jokes on that one...hee hee :)) so I bought a USB extension cable for my MS Intellicrap mouse....but after hooking it up....I kept getting crashes etc. in games. When I got rid of the cable...it worked fine.

Does this mean I need a USB powered HUB instead of just the extension cable? The cable itself is 6' and the mouse cable is between 4-6'

Is this too long for total USB cable length?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

System:
AMD T-Bird 1.4
256 MB Crucial DDR
IBM 7200 40 Gig
G2 Pro Hercules
WD 7200 20 Gig

At least you know what you're problem is :)

Beats having to troubleshoot for hours...

Saw this on the Microsoft Knowledge Base, Article ID: Q242062

"Mismatched Cabling
There are two types of USB cables: high speed and low speed. Low-speed cables differ primarily in their shielding. Plugging a high-speed device into a low-speed cable can cause signal distortion over long distances.

Verify the entire USB chain to be certain that a device that requires the ability to draw power from the hub is not plugged into the chain on the other side of a non-powered hub. This causes that hub and all of the devices down the chain to be suspended. If it is a powered hub, verify that the power supply for that hub is configured properly."
