Basically the title and summary explain it all. Will there be a card after the 7800 that will be competitive with the R520?

no . . . the r520 will be so overwhelmingly fast that nVidia will give up and concentrate on MB sales.
of course
and the 7800UltraOC and probably the 7850 and certainly the 7900 then the will be the '8' series . . .

32 pipe R520? LOL.. What do you think the yield will be on those puppies? Not very high I can assure you. Guaranteed ATI is suffering because of the move to 90nm and current leakage that goes along with the 90nm process. Unless it's dealt with like others have (Intel & AMD) They will first of all, have a heat monster on their hands IF in fact they can get all 8 (yes thats eight) quads fully functioning on a core. There are probably going to be an overabundance of "X900pro's" if ya know what I mean.
If ATI can get a 32 pipe card rockin without too much heat, power draw and I think the most important part, availability, then I will give my dollars to them as well as Nvidia when the time comes. I need to have at least one card from each company from each gen. usually the 2nd card from the top.
Props to Nvidia on this release. They did us right this time.

The 7800 GTX is all that nVidia could muster this round.
When ATi destroys it with their multiple 32-pipe cards this July, nVidia will be forced to go out of business
Haha, seriously, what is up with you n00bs asking questions for which no one has definite answers.
It is assumed that after ATi releases their lineup, nVidia will throw out a 512 MB 7800 Ultra to compete with the X950XT PE, but no one knows anything for sure.

I really can't see another major architecture improvement coming from Nvidia so soon after the release of the 7800GTX. If Nvidia does comes out with an Ultra version, the only options I see possible for it over the standard card would be 512mb memory, higher clocked core and faster memory.

7900? I think that can be a 32 pipline card, but if this is like 6X00 series, they won't release refresh cards...

And 90nm process.

True. That would help the 7800 line become even more economical while lowering power consumption and heat output.

I was never an ATI guy... the 9800pro was nice but they got rocked by the 6xxx series of geforce cards. I can't wait to see what's around the corner from Nvidia. $600 for the GTX is a pretty good price?
