Congrats and good luck bra! (even though I don't know what it means) Just remember make lists, don't give up and a healthy body is a healthy mind.

does it help if you buy a bunch of cheap old computers and build a network at home & do Folding@Home or something ?

just wondering if that counts as network experience and might impress a potential employer. maybe if it's a place that has a Folding team.

Not at all.

Check out USAJobs.gov. The government is hiring IT people pretty regularly lately. Hell, I just had two job vacancies that closed on the 14th for network techs to work on classified networks.

If I don't get a good enough list of applicants, I may repost the job and CCNA is a prerequisite.

Congrats.

I don't know how hard CCNA test is. However, with hard work and some more education may get you somewhere better than an entry level in a few years.

I got CNA (Cert Novell Admin), A+, NT4 MCSE (back in the day that it worth something), after a BSc. and it didn't pay as well as the trades, with stress & involved alot of unpaid hours (salary).

Kudo you and everyone that work in IT.

Congrats! It's a huge first step. I take my CCNA exam on Monday!

Yay! I passed my CCNA exam today! Wowzers, what a huge weight off of my back. Now I can fully concentrate on the CCNP (I'm taking the first of four classes this semester at a local college), but more importantly, I can go find a damn job.

Hopefully.

For some reason HR and hiring managers can have a inflated view of the CCNA. I once got rejected for a senior engineering job by a HR person for letting my ccna expire even though i had just passed the CCIE written. As for getting the CCNA congrats, just remember when you get that first help desk job if you are there more than 6 months you are doing it wrong. At my job we actually have a pool for how long someone will last when the helpdesk gets someone even a little competent.

passing ccie written doesn't count for anything but being able to take the CCIE lab. Have you scheduled your lab yet?
