Aflac for pregnancy?

Our Aflac rep at my work is always talking about getting them and how it covers so much during pregnancy, etc. If I get Aflac a month or two before my wife and I plan on getting pregnant would it be worth it? I haven't priced it out so I'm not sure what the monthly fee to get it would cost, but just curious.

Thanks.

It all depends on the company. For instance, my wife was allowed to use her sick time while out on maternity leave. No reason for additional insurance.

Is it a policy specifically for pregnancy? If so, they're usually not good deals. If you buy the cancer policy, you're still insuring against an uncertain risk, since you can't know you're going to get cancer. People who buy pregnancy policies are USUALLY trying to get pregnant. It's adverse selection.

If it's a short-term disability policy, it might help with lost wages during maternity leave but won't help with hospital costs.

If it's their 'injury/accident' policy, it will help a bit with the hospital bills, but not a ton.

In reality, the only real good coverage for pregnancy continues to be group health coverage.

I was assuming he had health coverage and was looking to keep lost wages from maternity leave.

Yeah, used to be if someone said 'AFLAC' you could bank on them talking about short-term/long-term disability, but they have diversified their products quite a bit nowadays.

alfac is a supplemental to your group insurance, so yes it pays off. there are people here that have it and actually make money on their health costs.

Hmmm... yeah she has insurance through Publix, where she works. I always heard the stories about people getting pregnant and end up taking home cash and stuff since Aflac paid for the rest. How true it is, I guess may be in question.
