If the Taliban is burning them, I bet it is by slowly turning them over a warm fire and constantly "checking" to make sure they being burned up.

Seriously, don't underestimate the power of proaganda. At one time there were massive riots in India. This was back in the days when you had to bite off the end of a cartridge before putting it in your rifle. A rumour was spread around that they had been tainted by beef and pork (not sure of the details) which would both insult Hindus and Muslims. The Indian soldiers in the British Army rioted.

Someone should tell the afgans that no matter how bad MRE's taste, grilling will not improve their flavor.

I heard that these packets are being dropped in who knows what area and people are running to get them and getting blown up by landmines!

Hah, that statement from the government is kinda funny. I was watching the news, and i see a video of a helicopter dropping these goods. From what i saw, these packages did not "flutter" to the ground, hell, flutter is the wrong word altogether. I'd say those packets dropped like rocks. Mof the goods they delivered appeared to be broken upon impact. I'm not sure though, this is what i saw from that one video, so i might and can be wrong. who knows.

well.... i don't think bbq'd dirt and horse crap is gonna do anything for them. Its better we drop them edible food compared to the crap that they have to eat due to their desert terrain.

The food is made of a mixture containing Pop-Rocks and Alka Seltzer so that when it is consumed, it ruptures the stomach and results in a slow, excrutiating, death. I guess they thought the landmine packets would kill too quickly for our American standards, being the cruel and inhumae bastards that we are.

You guys don't bother looking at it from the perspective of an Afghan person.

When Afghan was fighting with Russia, the Russians dropped food containers with bombs inside, which killed many unsuspecting starving Afghans.

They have a natural distrust of such humanitarian aid. Although it doesn't seem logical from our perspective that we might have evil intentions, to them it does.

I saw a bunch of them eating that soybar or whatever the hell it is made of, and handing out fresh veggies the UN distributed in boxes with a big USA flag on the outside. Someone is willing to take the chance of getting poisoned. I wouldn't doubt if the Taliban have told them all it was poison, or they would be shot for eating it, whichever the case may be.
