Well, at least some country is benefitting from Bush's economic policies.
Wish it was us though
It's the economy again, stupid

And still unemployment is still a relatively low 6.0%. The economy is slowly picking up. Hopefully more tax cuts will go out so the economy can get going again soon.

Well, Dubya better get something going in the next couple years. These 10 year tax cut plans aren't exactly going to help him in '04.

I love long-term economic policies... (damn deficit spending)

wrong. the people who are "pissed off" are remnant al qaeda and taliban as well as militia aligned with anti-americna warlords (who, it should be added, are getting swiftly routed in any encounters with US troops). people lost loved ones months ago but the bombing has stopped and rebuilding has started. stop being such an anti-american dipshit and open your eyes.

YAWN Don't forget the millions hiding out in Pakistan who will return the day we leave, if we ever can. How you interprt that as anti-american or anti-afgani I have no clue. It's not as rosey as presented by the week;ly standard.

And Charrison sure as long as the profits for transporting go back to them I think it's great.
You really are clueless. Millions hiding out? Back that up with real sources of information. The way your comments are slanted, I expect that anything less than a rosy picture represents failure and any positive steps taken can be chalked up to US greed. Our interests in seeking and working towards stability in Afganistan reflect legitimate US interests, not US greed. 25 years of war and fighting factions in Afganistan will not be overcome in a mere couple of years; that country has to be rebuilt. We are not in the nation building business but since we've necessarily gone in to forcefully change in the governing of that country, the current state of affairs are much better than the previous state and our commitment hasn't waned.

And as for leaving, I hope, and don't expect any different, that US troops will remain until well trained Afgani forces can replace them to secure the legitimate government of that country. The worst we could do is give up on them and I don't see that happening.

Even Assllama bin laden didn't even do that for the afghan people with his money. The only schools he built enrolled terrorists.

Afghanistan Goes Back to Taliban Rules

Men are not allowed to teach girls, girls are not allowed to study with boys

There has not been a lot of news from Afghanistan lately. The events around Iraq and North Korea pushed all other news into the background, including Afghanistan news. Yet, there are very interesting events going on in the former Taliban patrimonial estate. Afghanistan currently works on its Constitutions, which looks like the set of Taliban rules.

I never understood why we spent so much money to help people in that part of the world. I'm not talking about ethnicity here.....more of an observation that Sam Kinnison used to rant about all the time. It's the desert....nough said. :D

Just in case anyone hasn't seen the news lately, now UN troops have pulled out of Afghanistan the Taliban is starting to re-emerge and the country is beginning to revert to it's previous state... guess they wouldn't show that on American news though...

Yeah, we should have just blew up a couple of tents and then left the Afganis to fend for themselves. That makes sense.

Ignorance. We can't make them stop being islamic. They are free to dictate whatever rules they want in their society, I won't see anything wrong with what they are doing until girls aren't allowed to be educated and the only teaching of boys is radical islam.

Nothing that is developed. The proposed natural gas pipeline that was signed at the end of the year, runs through Afganistan, not from Afghanistan.

Consider this.

That pipeline is worth 3Billion, we have put 900M+ into construction.

The Afghanistan economy is "only" $21B. This should be a major economic boost.

charrison, you crack me up.

That one is not being built. You could at least post the press release about the pipeline that is going to be built by non US companies.

Where?

I don't see anywhere in that article that the US is building a pipeline. The only reference that is even close is the one where Unocal says it has withdrawn from the project.

I repeat, What pipeline are "we" building?
