affordable wargaming miniatures

So I took a look at Warhammer recently and the pricing is even worse this year with the cheapest space marine battalion at $230 which is bullshit. What are some companies that some workable miniatures that are not too expensive?

There used to be a Chinese site that did the official WG stuff. They sold the product for dirt cheap. This was after I left the hobby, no idea if they are still around or even what the name was. But, definitely look them up.

Games Workshop has put a ban on interregional selling of any products with no exceptions. Technically I think America can still order from the Canadians and maybe the Europeans but the Australians are shit out of luck since they have bullshit local pricing and now can not order from American or European retailers.

$230? good grief.
at that rate you might as well get a printrbot and some of the copper filament and print your own.

Wow... I didn't think it could get any nerdier in here but it just hit the next level.

What's the appeal of these things? Do you like play action figures with them or just look at them?

Back before video games, people played these things called board games. Some of them use little replicas of things most people call miniatures. Some people still play these games.

Makerbot's aren't great for mini's. Too many issues with the small details. I've been working on doing mini's for a Star Trek miniatures game for a while now. We used a Makerbot for some of our prototypes but for the final products we go through Shapeways.

That's a poorly painted example of a mini done on a Makerbot. As you can see the saucer section has holes in it where it didn't print properly and the pylons came out really rough.

Those are examples of models printed through Shapeways in their cheapest material (White Strong and Flexible). The larger green ship was about $14 and the larger white ship was about $28. The small white ship was about $8. The quality FAR exceeds what you'll get out of a Makerbot.

Having seen some 3D printed stuff up close from various stores/displays, they have serious issues with undersides (unsurprisingly) and obviously quite a few issues with details as well, but the other issue for miniatures is the ridges on most home printers which would make painting/etc a nightmare.

Depends on the model, material, and printer. Some are far better than others. I'll take some underside shots of those models when I get home.

dialing in a 3d printer is as much art as science. once you have it setup, you can get very impressive results. it is very easy to get out of calibration, so for precise models you need a fair bit of experience and knowledge.

fuming a print with acetone will melt the striations into a smoother surface. and with polishing you can get even better results. the new metalicized filaments look very impressive. painting a decent size print wouldnt be that bad.

Warmachine/Hordes...good looking minis, great ruleset, easy to learn and play and the community is awesome.

Warmachine is more like a steampunk/fantasy setting while Hordes is fantasy creatures. The beauty of the system is you can mix in Mercs or Minions in every armies and play against any army from both settings since the rules are the same for both (except some slight differences in some core mechanics).

Great game!

OP might want to get a job before he asks where to buy stuff.

He's a 27 year old who doesn't work or go to school and lives with Mommy and Daddy. He doesn't have any money. No idea why he posts threads like this.

Some of the newer Makerbots have huge problems and retailers are even removing them from their inventory.

Used pricing on eBay

Have thought about it. Could just contact those who are selling in Minnesota and see if I can do some negotiating for group purchases and pick them up with no cost for shipping. Does Ebay have rules for outside sales when you are using their website to sell shit?

it's technically not allowed

it's technically not allowed

Once the sale ends you are allowed to sell it personally?

Also it looks like the pricing for some of the Warhammer Fantasy Battalions skyrocketed from $120 last night to $180 today which is fucking batshit dumbfuckness.

If scenario is Auction is active and you try to contact the seller to buy outside of eBay, that is technically not allowed.

If scenario is Auction is over, item is unsold, and you try to contact the seller to buy outside of eBay, I have no idea what the official policy is.
