Afer Xp install Explorer makes system unstable

Installed XP last night...Have all the critical updates and now im facing a problem. My computer is slow. its not my processor, or memory. It was fine untill I formatted my comp and Installed XP again. The reason i formatted before was because i was having Java problems, where i was unable to download anything at all. Well that problem is fixed, but now i have an explorer issue. Task manager states that my explorer is taking 100% of cpu there for making the system incredibly unstable. #$&*($#
