I'm considering joinning the AF, I'm trying to research and find out what options/benefits would be better for me.

Active
I get a housing allowance which would drastically help me out
Travel with me and the wife
Full-time job

Reserve
I can keep a second job to help out on income
Can still have a life outside of military

I'm just not quite sure, what would you do? Any links to help me in this decision? Any other benifits that I can't think of off the top of my head right now?

I was Active, and Am trying for the ANG. If I had my choice personally I'd go ANG or Reserves. But active is an awesome experience

Active 1st, then ANG/Reserves. There are things you can do while on active in 4 years that would take 20 reserve to do. The temp. duty, travel, and closer knit community are just a few benefits. Major problem with active is pay is low, base housing generally stinks, and plan on moving every 3 years, most likely.

My brother is active USAF and has been in the same place for 7 years and hates it where he is, but can only goto 1 other place and it is worse then where he is now.

I spent 4 years active, 5 reserve, and 7 NG. I should have stayed active, but lil bit too late now. :p None of it USAF though, they live like kings.
