AF/AF

If you're not a complete "noob" then you should know how to tell if AA/AF are completely off, lol.

.....................

then im a complete noob... explain the application preference to me... it makes no sense

but how does the applicaiton preference work?
The application's settings control the features instead of the driver.

So if you've told the game to use AF in its options then it will. Otherwise it won't.

If the game has a setting for it then keep it disabled.
If the game has no setting it'll be off by default.

Of course AF is almost free on Radeon cards but it offers a massive improvement in image quality so there's no reason not to use it.

right click mouse on destop ,go to properties click it,click settings, click advance, click 3D tab,
choose either direct x or opengl, then move the slide bar to balance ,then click apply,or you can do it manually by
clicking check box that says "use custom settings" , then click custom bar ,in there you see both aa, af and other settings to disable aa and af just click on both the boxes next to them, so make sure it has a check mark otherwise it's not disabled, then remember to click apply.

If I were you I would keep them on because once you use aa and af with fast speeds the 9700 pro offers you'll never go back

What do you mean by almost free on radeon cards?

The performance hit is extremely small.

Whats a good setting to set it on?
16x performance. Set both the Direct3D and OpenGL sliders like that and all of your games will automatically use the setting without you having to worry about each game individually.

It depends on the game and your taste for a certain framerate.

I personally crank the resolution as high as possible and if I'm at the limit and I still have extra performance to burn, only then do I start using AA on a per-game basis.

thats because it isnt doing anything 😉

So when it says application pref... under the custom settings tabs, and u cant move the slider, that means its disabled?

sorry to bump so soon.. but its a pretty easy question.

Anybody?

If it's so easy then why don't you just answer it for yourself.

When application is clicked, you cannot adjust the slider becaue the application sets it, not the driver. When you uncheck it, now the driver sets it. Makes sense, you can't do both at the same time right?

ohh somebodys getting a little mean towards THE EVDAWG! Whos the immature one now? Be the bigger one... dont shoot yourself in the foot

lol, do you at least understand it now?

I like to leave them at off, F it, not worth the sacrifice of frames. Also, I don't want to have to keep changing it for every game. It's my unified AA/AF off works with all games thing.

aye... i do. Why dont they just do it simply!? BOYCOT ATI! GO nV! ;D jk....

(btw that was for you vain, 😉)

what are all the settings for advanced SmartGart and which to have on and off?
Leave those alone - SmartGART sets them itself based on how stable your system is.

So when it says application pref... under the custom settings tabs, and u cant move the slider, that means its disabled?
No it means the game is controlling the setting.
