Advise on pseudo-low-end Linux box hardware

Hi there,

I'm planning to buy a second CPU so I can put together some Linux box to take care of my ADSL link. I was wondering about hardware to do such a work. It doesn't have to be fast, but also I don't want it to crawl ... It does have to be cheap though.

I was thinking of a AMD Duron 600MHz and some good KT133 motherboard (still waiting for the good ones to come out .. where are the ASUS and ABITs?). Do you think it's ok? The processor is really a bargain, but the M/B is a bit expensive. 🙁

What other hardware choices do you guys recommend?

Thanks a lot,

Ok, let me put out some more information. I wouldn't want to get something old and slow 'cause I'll be using this box to something else, like development in ANSI C++. Besides, I'll be running DNS server, web server and ftp server on this machine.

Another try? 🙂

Thanks,

at my brothers company, they got 200 Mhz machines with 64MB of ram running DNS and routing for 5000+ websites.
They run RH Linux and are highly tweaked.
At home I run a P166Mhz machine with RH and it runs great for a webserver..
