I am finally getting a phone, but I am pretty clueless. I am in the NY city area and I am looking to spend about $30/month, but no more than $40. I have been surfing LetsTalk.com to do research. If anybody has any website links, recommendations, advice for me I would much appreciate it.

I am looking for these features:

[*]AOL Instant Messenger access (My friend told me he pays $.10 a message. Do some plans have a flat rate for this?)
[*]Vibrating ring
[*]Ability to use it as a dialup modem (in rare situations).

Nokia 3390 and T-Mobile offer the first two in your area and I get first 50 message free and .05 per message after. Or for 2 bucks I get 200 message.

And I think there's an attachment you can get from nokia to connect to computer for dialup. ;) Not sure though.

Does anyone know if its true that any phone/service which offers text messaging can be made to work with AOL messenger?

I think Verizon has AOL on their phones and Sprint will be getting it on Vision soon(I hope).

i got the tmobile package today. signed up at the mall, got the phone. tried to use it tonight and nothing works. so i call tmobile, they say there's a problem with their registration servers, we'll give you a five dollar credit (keep in mind i'm not even a customer YET). i like that, taking care of the customers. sprint probably would have billed me for the chance to talk to them about the problem.

when it gets working i'll let you know how i like it.

might be better off with TMobile then, cause they use the same network but seem to have better deals.

i have a friend there with Sprint. she says it sucks big time.
