advice please - to return or not

My intel dp965lt died. I ran out and bought a asus p5q Se from frys. My board is about 2 years old, but intel will still replace it. So I am in thinking about having intel replace it and then returning the asus board. I was going to upgrade, but was waiting until spring. My wife thinks I should just keep the board and then not have to worry about upgrading it in spring.
What do you guys think.

if you do not need the money i would keep it. save you the trouble of buying it in the spring

Listen to your wife. Haven't you learned anything?
Keep the Intel RMA for a backup or a 2nd build in the future... or sell it on ebay.

I guess me worry is by march of next year there will be a brand new proc and this mobo wont support it (though it does support yorkfield)

well in that case you might consider returning as that will probably be the chip you want to buy then possibly

If you are pleased with the Intel when it works, return the Asus as fast as you can.

By spring there would be something better for the same price.

To do general family planing with look into the future is very important (I.e. wife's job ).

Planing ahead as an End-User when computer hardware is concern is almost always a losing proposition.

I wasn't unthrilled with the intel, but wasn't thrilled either. It just worked okay.
I only have 15 days to return this mobo so I will see if intel even makes it back in that time.
This board is pretty nice though so I may keep it, just add a quad core proc a couple gigs of ram, and a new vid in spring and call it good for another couple of years.

Neither your Intel nor Asus will support the Core i7 CPU's... So why worry about that?

Well, the top-end Nehalem info came out today, from the reviews if you do 3D modeling or video encoding i7 offers quite a boost over C2Q architecture. Gaming is mostly a resounding "meh!" So make your choice depending on what you typically do with your system. Gaming - keep that Asus, RMA Intel & sell or keep as backup, drop in Q9550 or something in the spring. Video work - RMA Intel, return Asus, buy new rig in the spring.

No, I'm not saying that. I thought I was fairly clear...

Well intel made good on it's return and even included a tube of thermal paste for the processor. So I can return the board now for a full refund If I so desire. Or I could keep this board and use it to OC the e6400.
