Advice on which college loan to take out?

I am in dire need to get a loan to pay for school.
Tuition/fees is about $8500 and I have $5500 in scholarships so i need at least $3000 so I can at least go to classes.
Thing is: I'm Mexican and have no SSN. My parents don't make nearly enough to cover even that.
I got a friend's dad to cosign for me, but so far, 2 of the 4 alternative loans at the college have denied me. It looks bleak. They said they were mailing letters explaining why the loan was denied, but there isn't that much time left. I have until September to pay the next installment.

Do you know of any decent private loans that may accept a borrower with a cosigner but no SSN?
Any other advice you can have?

Thanks for your help.

Tiger Shark Loan Co?
Mexican Mafia Financial Services?
Columbian Drug Conglomerate, Inc?

As the prospective parent of a college student next year, and looking at applying for scholarships & loans for her, for some reason this thread pisses me off.

yeah, if you are illegal (which i am assuming), then you don't deserve a dime.

Talk to the financial aid office. Explain the situation and see if they'll set it up so that you can pay during the year. Get a job and pay it.

Or, if your friend's dad is willing to cosign, will he just loan it to you? Cosigning is pretty much the same thing, he's liable if you don't pay.

Worst case, call every lender you can find, explain and ask. You don't need an SSN to bank, but they're not obligated to lend you money.

Since you clearly don't have legal US residency just move somewhere with free education who would accept your application for a student visa. England, Ireland, Scotland come to mind as you (seem to) speak good English or Spain as you (presumably) speak Spanish.

Well, I think all I can say is "sorry" for trying to ask for help in a place where I thought people were at least tolerant.
As for the people that actually seemed to provide helpful ideas, thank you.
I'm out.

Thats easy to say when you haven't been denied financial aid. I'm sorry, but if you're an illegal and getting financial aid, thats fucked up.

That is the truth. There are plenty of tax paying citizens who do not receive financial aid because of things such as this.

tolerant of what? you taking money that many people here need? You not paying into any of the taxes that provided your money? Yeah, sorry about not being tolerant of that bullshit.

I am out about 50K for my kids college, I don't get a free dime because the kids are B students.

Something here doesn't sound right.

I'll try to make a tiny case out of something some people just won't understand, but wth.

People don't seem to understand that people that go to college and get help are usually good students. True, I know many students that shouldn't get what they get but they know the right people (I'm not claiming that what I do will satisfy any of you.) Regardless, most people talk about justice, and even by definition I could argue both ways about myself. Yes, I don't pay taxes, but even if I could I wouldn't be of age. According to you someone making $7000 has to pay taxes, right? What about all those corporate heads that avoid taxes by fooling the system or getting tax cuts by bribing politicians. I don't see you pointing your fingers towards them but the taxes they don't pay in a year could easily be worth 30 years of what I'll hopefully make once I graduate. And I'll definitely pay taxes and gladly pay my children's schooling, but that doesn't matter.
Enough of that, since you probably don't belong to that category.
I'm not a bad person. While in high school, I did community service and all that jazz. I was a pretty decent student. My brother and I took the school team to state science competitions 3 times in a row. I was no. 1 in my class until I decided that I wasn't studying instate so it wouldn't matter if I was valedictorian or salutatorian, so I ceded my spot to someone who didn't need but could still use the help (about $10,000, I think.)
And my point was? Nothing really. It's just unfair to be prejudicious.
Now, I'll just politely retire from this thread; I simply wasn't expecting this reaction. Sorry for the commotion. I apologize.

Wait wait wait....explain one more time.

How the fuck does an illegal deserve financial aid? You shouldnt even be in the country, much less get rewarded for being here.

who the fuck cares? There are more students like you but they don't get financial aid probably because they're not "an underrepresented minority."

I almost wouldn't feel bad if someone found your personal information and report you to the INS This is bullshit.

EDIT: And I guess they don't teach you to debate in Mexico either eh? Just because there is fraud/corruption that exists doesn't mean we necessarily tolerate or agree with it. You almost make it sound as if since other crimes and injustices exist that we should allow yours as well.

I'm sure someone here could find out who he is. Especially considering his name and the city he goes to school in are available.

Considering your illegal status and this boards ability to trace you (Im assuming), it would probably be in your best interests to not pursue this thread.
