Hi,
I would like to take my large stock of hi8 video footage, edit it and put it down on cd and hence I need to upgrade my video card and get a cd writer. My rig is as follows:
BX6R2,
PIII 850
512MB RAM
Geforce2 MX 32MB
IBM 30GB IDE HARD DRIVE oN PROMISE IDE DMA100
ADAPTEC 29160 SCSI WITH 3x4GB SEAGATE U2W HARD DRIVES
Philips CDROM 40X
plus the usual soundcard, modem etc.
I think I have narrowed the choice down to two video cards, the ASUS V7700 GF2 PRO 64MB VIVO or the ATI Radeon 64MB DDR VIVO, both seem to be at about the same price at the moment, dabs is quoting £171 for the ASUS and £153 for the ATI.
I use the computer for software development, 3d games, other games such as baldurs gate, shogun etc. Which would be the best option
for video editing? How about gaming performance? Do both cards come with all the necessary cables and software to do the video editing? I am making the assumption that my system could handle the task as well.
All my PCI slots are full and I can move the existing video card to my backup system to upgrade the aging TNT in there so I think I would prefer to go with a video card upgrade, rather than add a dedicated video edit PCI addon card.
For the CD writer I thought I would choose the HP CD12ri, it looks like it would be sufficient, plus I can pick it up for less than £100 and then upgrade next year to the HP DVD100i that is coming out this month when its price comes down a bit.
Any advice, greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Dave D.
