Try here:Craigslist search (Redondo, $1000-1600). Look on craigslist they have a bunch of good postings there.

Try looking in the redondo, torrance area, some of lawndale is nice too. You could also try Hermosa or Manhattan beach area, sometimes you get luckly. Your dollar will get you more in terms of living space if you look in Culver/Mar Vista/West LA, but the shorter commute and close proximity (blocks away) to the beach more than make up for it.

My friends that work in the area have lived in a 2BR/1Bath house off PCH and Rose (Redondo) for $1500, and a 2BR/1Bath apt in Hermosa for $1500.

How close is your work to the metro? I know the green line ends in redondo. If anthing you could even commute from long beach (would be about 30/40 minutes), it's awhile but no driving.

LOL I knew someone would post that.

In IA you'd probably get a mansion with servants for $1400/mo.

I've commuted over the last summer from the Wilshire Exit (Santa Monica) on 405 to Crewshaw, total of about 17 miles. 405S is fast in the morning until about Western, then it starts to suck. If your commute is before 8am, it's AWESOME. it would take me 15-20 minutes total. Add more time if you live farther down from the highway of course. In the afternoon, it would take me 30-40 minutes. You have to learn to take surface streets, exiting at the right time, etc. It wasn't that bad at all. ~1 hour commute roundtrip a day. I would imagine Culver to be even faster.

I live somewhat near Culver City (Marina Del Rey area) and work in El Segundo (El Segundo and Aviation) Takes maybe 15 minutes to get to work (7am) and about 30 to get home (4-5pm). Its about 9 miles each way.

Cool, sounds like you got a job at 'Space Park' as a lot of us call it. Personally I started about a year ago, and picked a spot near the Prarie and Artesia. Not the Ritz but its a 1 brdm for $800 and 1/2 of a 2 car garage and a coin-op shared washer/dryer. You will tend to see a lot of places from $900 for a 1 bdrm, closer to $1200 nearer the beach.

Check out Southbayrentals.com, a compliation of all the local ads and sources. Find somelse in your hiring group (if there was on) and see if you can split the website fee.

PM me if you want
Best of luck!

Suggestion from an L.A. native -- Start by looking for locations where your route to your work is not with the general flow of traffic during rush hour. For example, if you work anywhere south of Mulholland, living in the Valley will put you on the southbound 405 or 101 in the morning and north on the same freeway in the evening.

I consider anyone who willingly chooses that as a daily routine to be a lemming. You're volunteering to spend hours follow thousands of other lemmings, nose to butt, every day of the work week to cover a drive that would take 15 - 30 minutes during non-traffic hours. Sometimes I think they should update the Thomas Guide so that, on pages showing the 405 and 101, they should use a big red rubber stamp that says, RUSH HOURS -- YOU CAN'T GET THERE FROM HERE! :Q

Start by checking residential areas in a circle centering on your new job location. You'll save enough in gas, time and aggrivation to afford a better place, overall. :wine:  :music:
