I've lived in the Los Angeles area my entire life and one of the things I want to do when I go to college is experience a new place.

I was accepted to Emory and wait-listed to Northwestern and Wash U in St. Louis (there's still a chance I might be accepted off of one of them). As far as the programs, academics, opportunities, etc. go, they're pretty much the same caliber. The only major difference they have is their locations.

I'm planning on visiting a couple of the cities but I don't know if I can visit all of them. Just wanted to check out ATOTers opinions on these cities ... :)

Edit: Well, basically, what are some fun things for a college kid in each of these cities?

Edit 2: I chose Emory and even after my waitlists came back in May, I stuck with Emory. Atlanta it is! :)

If you are looking for a new experience, I'd choose Chicago over St. Louis only because there is a ton more to do there...just my 2 cents :p

Right, but I waitlisted to both of those schools. I'm going to try whatever I can to get off of the list, but no guarantees, of course.

If those are your only choices, you'll probably have to put a deposit down on Emory because you won't find out if you made it off the wait-list until after deposits are due at the other schools. Personally, I wouldn't go to Emory because it is like my hometown in the middle of Atlanta, and I hated my hometown (full of people who only cared about themselves and their material goods).

Chicago is pretty cool though (currently typing from said city).

Northwestern

I wouldn't live in St. Louis if they doubled my salary. Chicago has a ton of stuff to do.

I'm going to put down the deposit if it comes down to May 1 but I don't want to lose $500 in case I hear before the end of the month.

I guess the general consensus is Chicago. I'm going to see if I can visit Chicago since I've already been to Atlanta many times over the years ...

I am from St. Louis and I can tell you that its not a nice college town. I would say atlanta is the best choice out of the three. Weather is good. Good amount of international community (judging from your name). Florida is nearby and so are all the beach resorts. Dixie chicks are way way way way way hotter than midwestern chicks. Great tail-gating crowd during football season. I went to Auburn so speaking out from my experience from the alabama side. As for chicago I hate the winter weather there.

Emory or WashU, you'll thank yourself when the winter comes. (I made the unfortunate mistake of going to college in the Northeast.)

I'd probably go to the ATL. But I grew up in the midwest and live in NorCal now so I'd want something new like the Southeast.

I'm trying to keep my options open. Besides, what good does it do me to assume I'm rejected and then in a month, find out I'm in? I won't have any idea what I'll be getting myself into ...

UC Berkeley, UCLA, UC San Diego, and a full-ride to UC Irvine, but I really don't want to stay in California. All of my relatives, particularly my parents, agree that I'd be happier in a different place.

I can't imagine that location = happiness. I think you live in SoCal right? so consider how different SoCal and NorCal are, not to mention college from high school. Have you visited Emory?

You don't have to be in a non-D3 school to enjoy a tail gate drinking binge ;) u really think that my EE dept and the CS dept had any athletes :p . Also what are u trying to major in ?? If you are so confident that you will be any other place than cali then why not a different country altogether why limit your choice to US. You gonna have to pay out of state tuition anyways and you may as well goto europe

What are your plans academically? Are you going into medicine, engineering, finance, etc.? I had almost the exact same choices as you did (minus emory) when I was applying, and I am also from SoCal.
