Advice on this Build - any glaring issues?

Here are the main, vital components:

• OS: WinXP

• Case:COOLER MASTER ATX Mid Tower

• Power Supply: COOLER MASTER 750W

• Motherboard: EVGA NVIDIA nForce 780i SLI

• CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Wolfdale 3.16GHz

• RAM: OCZ Reaper HPC Edition 4GB

• Video Card: EVGA GeForce 8800GT AKIMBO SuperClocked 512MB

Since you're not building for at least a month, keep tabs on new developments in hardware and start a new thread then. The 8800GTX is already outdated and has been for a while now, so you'll want to look elsewhere for the video card. Both Nvidia and ATI are supposed to release new cards before you build.

Also, no sense in an SLI motherboard if you're only buying one video card.

Other than that, check back when you're within a week of buying. Prices fluctuate too much in the computer industry to plan beyond a week or two. (With the exception of something like a case or CPU heatsink if you get a very good deal.)

Thanks! I'm keeping my eye on the vid card situation and a friend of mine also said the same thing.

As for the SLI, I don't have the $$ for two vid cards, but eventually, I'd like to get a second. So I'd purchase the mobo with an eye on the future.

I didn't select the 790i SLI mobo because the DDR3 ram is VERY expensive and (from what I've read) doesn't offer any real upgrade in performance for the cost.

Removed the 8800 GTX
For the same price, I'm able to get 2x 8800 GT OC and use them SLI. Together, they're almost the fastest vid card solution on the planet.
I changed the build.

Or you could get one 8800GTS and wait and see what comes out in the next six months instead of spending an arm and a leg on performance you'll never use.

Save $80 and get a e8400. 3.0ghz vs 3.16ghz is almost nothing and they'll overclock to about the same.

I don't plan on overclocking, but if I do in the future, I read many reviews that claim the 3.16 is the easiest to OC......compared to the 3.0.

Naw, e8400 and e8500 will easily hit close to 4.0ghz with good cooling, anything higher will be patient tweaking and luck of the draw on the chip.

The E8400 will hit 3.6GHz almost guaranteed, and 4.0 is often doable. Personally I wouldn't spend the extra eighty dollars if you *might* overclock. Also, a CPU at that speed doesn't do much for you in games. At that point you're limited by the video card not the CPU most of the time.
