Skyrim CF scaling on R9 295X2 is not so good. But the 4GB should serve well for mods.

Watch Dogs plays very well on even a single R9 290X at 1600p . R9 295 X2 will chew through it

btw the XDMA tech on R9 295X2 is much superior in frametimes than the older tech on 7970 CF.

Not worth the money with new tech coming out soon. Save your bucks since you have 7970s. This ISN'T the same situation as the 7990 so don't be swayed by company partisans. Your cards are good and current gen from either company at this point is a waste of money. in your situation

So you need to resort to slandering people just because they have a different opinion than you?

Today, $1K for a 295X2 is good value. How is this so different than the 7990? This is a situation very similar where if you wait you might miss out. Anyone who bought the 7990 when it was on sale still can't buy a better performing single card for less because the 7990 is still faster than any single GPU card made. There are no guarantees, but someone of the opinion that the 295x2 could/might/possibly end up a similar value is basing it on history, not brand partisanship. If the 295x2 didn't offer the latest feature set including superior crossfire performance, I might think sticking with the 2x7970's was the better choice too, but they do.

So the final price is £700. Not sure what to make of that. I can afford it, I just don't know if that's worth it.

the 295x2 will play next years games very well @ your resolution, if the price is that low i wouldn't wait. Enjoy the fastest card in the world now. XDMA > SLI > CF

well said. the XDMA tech alone makes it worthwhile to upgrade from 7970 CF to R9 295 X2. the frame pacing is superior on R9 290 cards.

add to that a 40 - 50% performance improvement, much superior CF scaling and a much quieter and cooler running setup with a R9 295 X2. definitely a huge jump from HD 7970 CF.

I'm actually considering ordering one and not opening it. Then I can wait for Nvidias announcement and either choose to use it or sell it on.

I haven't yet. Theres 100 in stock but they've sold 15 or so so far. What are your thoughts? One minute I'm going to buy, the next I'm reluctant.

Unfortunately I don't really know enough about them to answer. The only thing I play is CS GO and my little 770gtx is overkill for that even.

It seems like a great deal, but they might just be doing it because what Nvidia is about to release is going to blow them out of the water.

Tough decision mate...good luck :)

So tempting, but really looking for something around the same performance that is more efficient. Hoping 2x next-gen cards will do the trick.

I was looking at that too. 780 TIs are 500 pounds here. I wouldn't imagine Nvidias next offering being considerably better OR cheaper. That's why this is tempting me so much.

I doubt NVidia will give you more performance for less $'s.

295x2's performance at it's current price is a good value it looks like.

Buy, hold, return it if desired....As long as the return policy allows of course.

Interesting how the main complaint has been paying the single card premium over 2 separate cards for a dual chip card. With this offer that's gone. Add that the AIO cooler cures another multi card issue of dumping all the heat inside the case. The 295X2 does use a lot of power, but that's a given at this level of performance. Sure, more than likely something is going to come along next gen that performs better, but we aren't likely to see that until 20nm. Whenever that is?

Completely agree. As my 7990 has held up well, I likewise think the 295x2 would do nicely for a while and potentially offer a great option to pair with a Freesync monitor in the future... where are those previews!

I had no idea how well this card scales with an added 290x. That would be something I could look at adding in early next year. Oh goddamn it.

Someone who is Nvidia based, is the grass really greener? I hear all the nice things like shadowplay and driver based downsampling. Do you really use them etc? That's probably the only thing holding me back.

So I ended up ordering one.

A family member offered to pay half the cost, so I mean, how could I say no?

Thanks!

Even if one of the companies debuts some new fantastic card, this is easily low enough that I won't have buyers remorse anyway.

Yeah no question it's a fantastic deal. You get nearly 2x the performance of a similarly priced nv card.
