Advice on replacing Radeon 8500 stock heatsink/fan

Okay here's the deal.

I want to replace the whiny crappy HSF on my Radeon 8500LE. I don't want to put on a blorb or crorb or any kind of orb. I want to attach a large passive cooler.

I plan on doing this with an old socket HSF adhesed with artic alumina adhesive. I won't be using a fan as I'm going for a noiseless PC.

Does anyone know if a large passive heatsink will be enough to cool the core? I don't plan on overclocking it at all.

Also does anyone know what dimension heatsink I could fit on there?

Any help would be appreciated.

First off, the stock unit is stuck on there good, so you have to be extremely carefull not to damage the PCB that the core sits on. Secondly, you might be ok at 230/230 with a large passive heatsink, but you might loose stability on hot summer day's.

Really? That little wiener HSF that comes stock sure does suck. Do you really think that a large passive HS wouldn't cool better than a tiny HSF that's stuck on there rather poorly?

Hrm...
