Advice on P4T533 setup

I am thinking about ordering the following from googlegear:

ASUS P4T533-C
Pentium IV 1.6A, 1.8A, or 2.0A
I'm thinking that a 1.8A would be a good bet at 533 FSB and 2.4GHz CPU, 1.6A would get 2.2
or so but then RAM would probably bee too high.
RDRAM 2x256MB Samsung 8 device 40ns
Hopefully can get to 1066 without any trouble, also have 16 device but I assume that the 40ns is better

Any advice greatly appreciated. This is my 1st O/C on P4. I'm gathering that an RDRAM system would perform best.

Probably a good choice..

I went with 1.8A, abit TH7-II and 2x256MB Samsung 16 devices. Should arrive tomorrow if DHL moves their a$$.

I gather that you get better overclock on low density rdram.. ie 16 devices. Also try getting original Samsung ram.

Also.. someone pointed out that this place and this place has PC1066 for sale. So might be worth looking into.

I believe the 16 device Samsung 256MB RDram modules offer better overclockability.

i would also consider the Giga-byte GA-8IHXP motherboard for the new I850E chipset.
for roughly the same price, you get much more features.........Onboard LAN, RAID/ATA 133, more USB 2.0 ports, and yes, Dual BIOS.

i am also in the market for the new I850E chipset board.......considering Asus P4T533 or Giga-byte GA-8IHXP (its not available in US yet, anyone knows where i can get one ?)
too bad Abit is not considering the 850e chipset

ah well.....thanks

Well, another thought I had was to go with the Samsung 128MB modules (2x for 256MB). Google has the 8 device (MR18R0828BN1) which may work OK. If I have problems with them then I'm only out $84 until the PC1066 comes out in force.

You're reading my mind. I was just getting ready to post something like this, but didn't know where to post...Here or MB. Anyway I'm looking at the samething.

ASUS P4T533-C - Great board, but what about ATA133!
Pentium IV 1.6A, 1.8A, or 2.0A - For the $ and native Oc'ing the 1.8A retail is looking the best for me to.
Samsung RDRAM 40ns for i850E chipset - No problem doing 4x133FSB. This is the ram recommended in ASUS website for this board.

Newegg.com has the 128MB sticks for $42 + shipping. 4 of these could set you back $168 plus. Anyone know where to get 2x256MB for cheaper?

gpanda - When do you plan on order?

I would love to see a review of these boards before I dump atleast $500 in an upgrade...

I don't think ATA133 adds much and I prefer the quiet Seagate Baracuda IV which is ATA100.

I was wanting to order in the next day or 2...got some vacation coming up week after next and want to play a bit. Try out Soldier of Fortune II and Unreal Tournament 2003!!

Me too!!

Really want to true PC1066 RIMMs but don't see that happening in the next week.

I'm a bit disappointed in the board after the review. Especially the RAM voltage issue.

One thing that we found disappointing was the lack of memory tweaking. About the only memory related feature we could find was setting the speed of RDRAM as 3X or 4X. There was no option for anything else like increasing voltage or even setting a "Turbo" mode that was present on the P4T-E.

Can't get to the review. It might be my works proxy. I'll look at it later. Thanks!

Don't tell me you gotten a hold of a UT2003 demo...did you? If so you must share!

True, my drive is only ATA100. I was just thinking that it's new technology why shouldn't it sport new technology.

As for the memory, does this matter that much without having these options (turbo, voltage, etc)?

I was going to get a min of 256MB (2x128). Do you really think I should just bite the bullet and get 512MB now?

Haha...I WISH I had UT2003 demo...naw...I've heard that the demo will be released the end of this month. I want to have a kicken machine ready for it!

Regarding memory, I want to push to PC1066 so my guess is that without voltage hikes the PC800 might not reach that. Plus, even when the PC1066 comes out, why not push IT to PC1200?!? If I go the RDRAM route I want the least I can get by with (256MB) because I know damn well that I'll want the PC1066/1200 when it arrives!

I am just not happy with the P4T533 now. I am going to keep my eye out for an 845G board for a few days. Tom's Hardware Guide seemed to imply that the 845G performed better with DDR then did the 845D/E. I'm hoping that it will support DDR333 as well so I won't have any issues pushing as high as I can with some Corsair XMS3000. But, if a better 850E board comes along I might jump back to that option.

On the one hand I love :D all the options becoming available but I am also having trouble  making a decision. I could keep putting it off forever though :Q

I am really wanting the AMD Claw Hammer

I second the vote for the Giga-byte GA-8IHXP. Looks like more of everything.

I haven't found any reviews or places selling it yet.
