Hi all, long time reader first time poster,

I have a dependable dell Vostro V13 which I use as my work laptop for basic office tasks. In recent months the battery has begun to loose it's charge so I will be replacing it. While I have it opened up I am considering changing the HDD for a cheap 128GB SSD. My storage requirements won't require more than that, however I am well behind the latest SSD controller knowledge and advice on what to controllers/drives to think twice about, so any advice would be appreciated.

The specs are U7300 DC Centrino, 4GB, Toshiba MK3256GSY 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB 2.5" SATA 3.0GB HDD.

My workload is simple Word and excel tasks with light browsing and the occasional movie. With my specs I won't need anything too fast and expensive, just looking for a dependable 128GB SSD that isn't too fast for the system to take full advantage of. I will be keeping the laptop for atleast another 2 years so not currently interesting in changing to a ultrabook etc.

Any suggestions?
Cheers.

Samsung 830 or Crucial m4. The 128GB Samsung has been on sale for less than $100 recently, so I would wait a few days and see if that offer comes again.

Thanks I'll look into both. I'm UK based, any advice regarding any particular UK websites to watch for best deal appearances?

Thanks again

In the UK, Scan.co.uk is probably the largest etailer we have. I have spent thousands with Scan and they are an excellent company with easily the largest range of computer kit in the UK.

We don't have "sales" like the US, but the 830 is very cheap right now over at Scan. I've bought about 5 for various reasons in the last 2 months lol.
