Are you intending to overclock?

What's your max budget in INR?

Something to think about: Your current H61 motherboard can support any LGA1155 processor, if its BIOS is updated to the latest version. The main downside is it can't overclock any processor. But you could upgrade to an i5-3570 (Rs. 15500), and then you'd have more money to spend on a graphics card, for instance.

Of the two graphics cards you mentioned, the 270X is superior.

Not currently but i do plan to overclock in the future say after 2-3 years so this is basically an investment i am making to future proof it a bit.
Also my max budget would be no more than 75k($1200).

Hmmm that's interesting. So what do you suggest ? If i get i5-3570 for my current mobo,i could get this graphics card with the money saved.
ZOTAC NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 AMP Edition 2 GB Graphics Card-$360

There is no such thing as investment when it comes to PC parts. At least, if you did invest in them, you'd lose all your money!

What all components do you have in your current PC? You can probably reuse the mobo as Ken suggested, but also the RAM, case, PSU, and storage (perhaps adding an SSD).

I have gigabyte H61M-Ds2 mobo,4gb*2 1333mhz ram,coolermaster 350 watts PSU,some no name el cheapo case,dvd writer,17 inch 1440*900 LCD monitor,1TB hdd,win 7 64 bit.
The PSU is trash, the case is trash so will need to replace those, only re-usable parts are ram, dvd, hdd and possibly mobo. Also new 1080p monitor is a must.
So what might I do,build a complete up to date haswell system with mid range graphics card or buy ivy bridge CPU and get a better graphics card like gtx 760 or possibly gtx 770.

Strictly from a game performance perspective, updating your BIOS and getting an Ivy Bridge i5 while stepping up to a GTX 770 would yield the best results (maximum frame rates in general) for the money, imo. This may go against the received wisdom, though.

If you go with an Ivy Bridge i5, you you can reuse your mobo, RAM, DVD-RW, HDD, and OS. Haswell i5's sell at about the same price as Ivy Bridge ones and aren't that much faster, so it makes sense to stick with the Ivy as an upgrade.

i5 3470 Rs. 13.7k
Reuse mobo Rs. 0
Reuse RAM Rs. 0
R9 280X Rs. 24k
Samsung 840 120GB Rs. 6.8k
Reuse HDD Rs. 0
Reuse ODD Rs. 0
Seasonic S12II 620W Rs. 5.8k
Corsair 200R Rs. 5.0k
Dell S2240L Rs. 8.4k
Total: Rs. 63.7k

Nice PC, but be sure to get a new graphics card in two years time. Cause yours will be a bottleneck in the near future.

All in all, my kind of a machine: solid parts all round, a weakish graphics card, and then upgrade the graphics card later down the line and the rest of the machine will live up to it like a peach!

Thanks this is what i am going to do as you suggested and save cash but make a few changes instead of R9 280X it will be Zotac GTX 760 2GB and case will be NZXT Phantom 240/410.

What are you paying for the Zotac GTX 760, and is it a reference card (i.e. simple rectangular cooler)?

I would not recommend paying any more for the case than that what that 200R costs. It's not worth downgrading from 280X to GTX 760 just for a better case, because the 200R is already sufficiently capable for your needs.

Its zotac 760 2gb Amp! Edition($370) but
there is also an msi 760 2gb with dual fans which is $20 cheaper($350) so which is better? Am not getting AMD because my last two cards have been AMD so now its time to go with NVIDIA  Am really impressed with the Nvidia 7xx series.

I need to learn that lesson. I, erm, "invest" too much into parts, thinking that I can use or sell them (built) in the future. It almost never works out that way.

The GTX 760 is a much weaker card than the R9 280X. I don't see why you would intentionally buy a slower card when you can afford the more powerful one. Stick with the Sapphire R9 280X that I recommended.
