Advice on New ~$200 video card

I am moving my Matrox G-400TV from my PC to a used P3-550 PC I just picked up cheap from my brother in-law, the reason is that I can't afford to tie up my main PC for hours while rendering video.

Anyway, I'd like to get a new video card for my PC, it is a P3-600/ AGP.

I was looking at Nvidia based video cards, but I have been out of the hardware scene for a while so I have not kept up. BestBuy has some nice looking cards but I am not sure which is a good one, and can handle newer First Person Shoot'em up games, and the new Soldier of Fortune II that is coming out. Anyway, here are some examples:

VisionTek GeForce2-MX400 AGP Graphics Accelerator 64Meg, $99.00
VisionTek Xtasy GeForce2 Ti AGP Graphics Accelerator 64Meg, $130.00
VisionTek Xtasy GeForce3 Titanium 200 AGP Graphics Accelerator 64 Meg, $199.99

also

(non Nvidia) Radeon 7500 Video Card, AGP, 64MB, $199.99

I can probably get a better price online, or CompUSA...my friend is a manager at the one by the house.

Thanks!

Mitch

for just about 200 bucks, you can get a radeon 8500 that will blow away any of the aforementioned cards - in quality and quantity (fps).

you are right leon, i forgot about all that underclocked oem stuff. but honestly, i think i would still rather have an "underclocked" radeon than a geforce. plus, there is always overclocking 😉

"for just about 200 bucks, you can get a radeon 8500, Underclocked OEM version"

I should mention that I NEVER overclock my PC or graphic card...I don't like all the hassles that usually come up.

Are there any Benchmarks for an UNDERCLOCKED Radeon 8500? Is it much slower?

On a side note, the ATI Radeon needs a AGP 2X or AGP 2X/4X universal slot, my motherboard is an Asus P3B-F with an AGP 1X or 2X mode bus, I am ASSUMING the Radeon will work?

Thanks!!

Mitch

Re: GFTi200 - I suggest Leadtek model ($180 w/free shipping @ Newegg), they have 4ns memory and proven to be very overclockable, in some cases hitting Ti500 speeds.

ChrisADuffy-I doubt ATI will go against end users, they have better things to do.

you know, i was reading the review, and i noticed that one of the benchmarks shows one of the cards doing 40+ fps at 1600x1200 with high detail. that just made me think - wow. how far we've come. i remember first trying out an original voodoo card (it was the 6 meg version when most other voodoo cards only had 4, i forget the name), and i remember being sooo impressed. with that in mind, i would honestly be happy with almost any of the aforementioned cards. but as i said before, id still prefer the radeon 😉.

bios flashing only takes 30 secs, so go for the Radeon 8500LE, have mine at 275/550, running stably =P and besides, the difference between OEM and retail is hardly ever more than 10 frams per second at the most.

YES! it was a conopus! and yes, it did rock when it first came out. plus, it had tv-out, so guess where the first place i tried it was? 😀 yup, in my living room!
