advice on job search

i've just graduated with a B.S. in Management from a respected public school

i'm looking to get a job in this field, but it seems everywhere i look, 3 - 5 years of experience is required. where is someone like me supposed to start?

i did work full time through most of my college work, and so i have some experience that i can stretch to be "relevant" but ...

... because i was working full time, i did not get to attend my school's career fair, which i'm sure would have helped some in answering my own question

Well, you don't start as a manager because you have a management degree 🙂

Take note of any specific skills you have and look for analyst positions at companies that have that need. If you had a good GPA, check the big consulting firms as well. Use everything out there, from your school's career office and on-campus recruiting (which you might've missed by now) as well as Monster, CareerBuilder, LinkedIn, etc.

You waited till you graduated to look for a job? No internships? No recruiters ever came to campus?

SRSLY did you think your first job out of college was going to be a manager?

im not sure where i said that: "where is someone like me supposed to start?"

When you said "B.S. in Management" and "i'm looking to get a job in this field"

Ignore the douche bags. Look at the other people graduating with the same degree as you. What are they doing. Talk to your favorite professors and find out where previous students have gone for their first jobs.

oh. so i should look to get a job that is NOT in the field of management? thanks

fyi, only in your world does "i'm looking to get a job in this field" = "i'm looking to get a job as a manager"

hooray for thinking a piece of paper stating you know how to do homework gets you a good job!!!!

i don't know where i said this either. to be absolutely clear: "where is someone like me supposed to start?" = "what are some entry level positions that do not require experience that would be relevant to the degree i have acquired?"

i suppose i could have been so precise from the beginning, but i figured "where do i start?" was both a self-explanatory and humble question...

just to be extra clear. i did not live on campus. i attended school full time and held a full time job simultaneously. i missed many classes because of work much less attending events outside of class...

Doesn't Enterprise Rent-A-Car hire a lot of new grads?
Yes, I know someone with a marketing degree working for them. $30-35k to start most likely, not great but it's a job.

If I spent 4 years in college and got a job for 35k/yr I wouldn't be too happy.

My buddy has a B.S. in business and works for them. He always tries to talk enterprise up like it's a prestigous place to work. His salary is horrible, and he details and rents cars all day. He works long hours, and he wears a tie everyday....to detail/clean and rent cars!!!

He actually tried to get me to apply; he told me it was a great place to work, blah blah blah.

Dont believe me, check this out
