You're crazy dude. I love the sound of twins. I like the sound because it is very distinctive and raw. Twins also make a lot of weird and freaky noises; all of which are normal. Don't listen to my engine when it's idling, you'll think that there is a loose tappet.

I recently put an insanely loud exhaust system on my Ninja. I never saw the need to wear earplugs before, now my ears start ringing after only a few minutes if I don't wear them.

what kinda exhaust have you got on your baby.. I am thinking of a Yosh full system. just got to see how much money the IRS gives back to me 🙂.. also thinking of a windshield after todays 50mph cross winds that blew thru the LA basin.

Check my "Baby Ninja" profile in my sig. I have a Muzzy full exhaust system. The system, itself, cost me $330 from Dennis Kirk. I also have K&N high-flow intake filter pods that I installed to accompany the Muzzy. I then had to rejet, the Ninja is lean to begin with, so I bought and installed a Dynojet Kit. The K&N's cost around $80 and the jet kit was around $75.

The K&N's changed the noise level of the engine just as much as the Muzzy did. I couldn't believe how loud the intake is.

Seriously, any newer 600 / 750 is a good bike. Just be really careful buying used. Remember that the vast majority of these bikes have been ridden and ridden hard. Some have not. Many have been wrecked to one degree or another - again, not the end of the world, but you better know what you're looking for. For that nice "no one has touched MY bike" feeling, and a warrentee, a new bike is hard to beat.

Right now, the Gixxer is pretty much king of the hill in performance accross the board (600/750/1000) but all of the bike are SO close that YOU a new(er) rider will never tell the difference. Buy the one that fits you and the one whose style you prefer.
 
Ok...time to save up for a Gixxer then... one more questions for you guys out there... how come the Yamaha R7 isnt being sold over here... or am i wrong?

It is, but it costs $20K and you need to show that you're part of a racing team or something(although that part is probably wrong). 🙂
 
I think Yami keeps the commercial R7 out of America because they're doing so well with just the R6 and R1. The sales of the bikes are phenominal and Yami is leaving a good thing alone.
 
The R7 is and has never been a 'production' bike - anywhere in the world. They made enough of them to satisfy the FIM regulations regarding how many 'production' models of a bike had to be made to get homgulated for World Superbike competition. To buy one you had to be a) lucky, b) well-off, c) a race team in a national series. You can still buy them if you wanted to bad enough, but the 'produciton' R7 was/is WAY underpowered, ill-handling, etc. It takes many thousands of $$s to make one competative. A stock GSXR750 would kill a stock R7. But and R7 is nice for it's trick factor and the fact that you would truely have a 'rare' bike.
 
Yah ... well i was just asking because i see R7s all over European magazines... and the SBK series over there... but never saw one on the street. I would rather have a 600 or a 750 right now... i think 1000 is too much for me. 😀

Me too. I would give my left nut for one of those.

The 750 sportbike market in the states doesn't interest Yamaha all that much, but I will say that at the dealership where I used to work, we had an R7, and it was the trickest Japanese bike (out of the crate) I had ever seen.

Which is too bad because it's nice to have that mid-range power at lower insurance cost (priced insurance on a Gixxer 1000 yet? :Q ) 600's are nice, but be prepared to drop a gear or 2 to make a pass. And I find them 'buzzy' since you have to maintain such high revs to make good HP. Which is why I prefer the twins - good tourque everywhere! 😛

That was one of the things I liked about owning a Triumph (a 900 no less)...I was only paying about $300/year for full coverage. Tri's aren't always on insurers' black lists if you shop around a little.

True that - 'insurers' black list. Ducatis are the same way, some places they're outrageous, but others they're unbelievebly cheap. I was paying less than $30 a month for my 916. Progressive wanted $3000!!!! a year for a Ducati 900SS!!

That's insane....a 900SS makes less HP than a CBR600. I wish they would base the rates on your past history rather than what bike you ride.:|

Yeah, but when they fall over, it's expensive, and they fall over a lot. You wouldn't believe how many destroyed Ducatis came through our shop.

That's true, but a GSXR750 is much cheaper to fix relatively speaking and yet you still get nailed on insurance for them....such a scam. Oh well.

I had a '96 Daytona Super III...sold it this past summer as I wasn't really riding it all that much and kinda needed the money. I'm sure someday I'll kick myself for selling such a rare bike tho... It was kind of a pig to ride in the really twisty stuff, but super-stable in fast sweepers.
