-HP ProCurve 2510G-24 Switch (24-port gigabit)

I've been learning little by little about the functions of this switch. Both by looking at each setting through Telnet and the HTTP interface and reading.

I may have several questions as I work my way through the settings.

The first question is about the switch DHCP settings. It is on the default settings yet. Devices are shown as being connected to the switch ports, are functional, but the AT&T NVG510 Modem/Gateway DHCP is assigning addresses to devices plugged in to the switch. The only switch DHCP setting I located is in VLAN settings. I'm not sure if the VLAN DHCP settings are supposed to assign IP addresses or? Would the Gateway DHCP cause the VLAN not to assign IP addresses?

Last question: Because the gateway is assigning IP addresses, would this slow down LAN traffic?
Bare with me as I learn about VLANs.

Can you post a screen shot or the text of a what you're seeing?

^^This guide gives quite a bit of info, and also refers to the next link for additional information

From what I can tell, the setting you have on is the device will receive a DCHP address from the DHCP server. The configuration youre seeing is that the device is set to receive an IP, and it's defaulted to the default VLAN.

Read page 8-5+6 in the first link.

edit: Last question: Because the gateway is assigning IP addresses, would this slow down LAN traffic?

No. DHCP is a service that runs on the network. It doesn't change traffic on the network in any ways, except when clients request an IP, some traffic there.
