Advice on building AMD 64 3000+ rig

Well i just ordered my second WD 80gig 8MB Cav drive... now im going to be ordering a AMD 64 3000+ CPU and I wasnt sure on which Motherboard to go with. I do game but Im putting all this into a computer that i will be using for Music Recording with my EMU 1820 interface.

Can anyone give some advice as to what stable motherboard on the S939 platform that I should get? Im looking at getting a gig of ram at 3200 since im not interested in overclocking with the rig. And since I have two hard drives how would i go about setting up one HD as just my windows xp operating system and using the other HD for accessing files since I heard this is faster at accessing files when recording. Any other advice on certain parts would be of help .


Just to recap all i have on the way is a
1)AMD64 3000+ (winchester) cpu
2) WD80gig HD


Im looking for silence and stability over speed.

I'd suggest a DFI board w/ the Nforce 4 chipset or if you need an AGP slot I'd suggest an Epox Nforce 3 250GB board.

Are you on any kind of budget b/c i would also recommend the DFI nForce 4 board if you don't have to worry about money, myself I had that too worry about, so i went with a Chaintech vnf 4 Ultra, and it works great

lookng at 350 for the board and the cpu together i would prefer PCI Express too

DFI nForce 4 Lanparty Ultra-D is the board to get right now.

Stable as anything, 2 PCIe x16 slots, good overclocing capabilities

Make sure you get a 939 board so you can put a dual core in it in a year or two!

For a motherboard I suggest the following.

It is cheap stable and has a pci-e slot. It also has decent (no good for demanding games but light gaming ok) integrated video. And the price is right.

Thanks for the info, ill look into the DFI but the ATi offering is tempting considering the price point.

Can you get the computer equipment well away from the recording room? If you make it quiet putting it in an adjacent room should be fine, connected to the recording room with USB, DVI, ethernet (for the 1820), whatever.

I unfortunalty am not able to, which is why im going to buy a really quiet case. I live in a apartment for the time being and dont have anywhere else to put the computer. When i move into my house though im going to build a room strictly for studio work.
