Connected the Magnus larsson speakers they are 10 x better than the yamahas!!!! The sound is crisp and not distorted, however the videos I have on my iPhone are not playing at the same levels as cable tv, CDs and DVDs etc?? Is this because that the receiver does not have enough power?? Should I get something with more power like the pioneer I've mentioned above?? I realize that iPhone / iPod sound quality isn't great but my dad runs his through his kenwood 5.1 system that is a in the box package and manages to get maximum DB?? Any ideas??

Do you see an option raise the master volume reference level for the inbound port? Ex) coax 2 set master volume to +4. Also, how are you connecting your device? The ipod headphones out/some usb docking device???

The iPhone is connected through the video2 component on the tv and a jack straight to the iPhone and through an optical cable to the receiver, where would I find that volume setting?

Am I going to get better sound out of my Harmon kardon AV134 or the pioneer vsx-521 receiver with these Magnus larsson speakers??

H-K will provide better sound even though it doesn't have as much power. And the amplifier power isn't the cause of your problem anyway.

Try feeding the iPhone through the receiver directly rather than from the phone-->tv--> receiver.

I adjusted the DB settings for fl and fr speakers to +6 on each one and noticed a major difference, I might try connecting it straight to the receiver thanks for the advice guys. Am glad to hear that the HK although doesn't have the power numbers is still a good receiver, so I'm curious as to why a receiver with a large power number doesn't necessarily produce the better sound??

The power numbers don't matter much to be honest. Even at moderate volume level you're most likely feeding less than 5W to the speakers. The quality of the amp affects the quality of the sound pretty much independent of the rated power output.

So if the power of the amp/ receiver isn't important, why does everyone have and want an amp with massive watts or power??

Still not happy with the sound level I can get through my iPhone to the receiver, I've increased the DB level on the speakers, and have connected the iPhone direct to the receiver it just doesn't have any DB, do I need a more powerful receiver?? Am I playing it through the wrong source option on the receiver??

Yes I'm using a jack similar to that, it's has three more pins that go into the back of the tv for picture on music clips, and I'm am using a optical cable to route it from the tv to the receiver if that makes sense, I know I'm doing something wrong because as I stated before my dad runs his through his kenwood the same way and gets great sound??

Does that mean I won't be able to play music videos and get a picture on the tv?

Connect the white/red plugs to the receiver instead of the TV. It would not prevent you from watching a video and getting audio from the speakers.

So I should still be able to play music videos on the iPhone and get a picture on the tv and sound through the receiver??

don't bother, it wil just degrade the sound. Also, you probably cannot.

Yeah, unless there's a tape monitor loop (hah! WTF is that, right?) it isn't likely to be possible.
