So I got the last of my parts today (other than the graphics card of course) and have started building my PC. So far it's going well, but one of the pins has broken off of my motherboard's USB3.0 connector. Should USB 3.0 still work with a broken pin, or is this a real problem?

Thanks.

Depends on which pin. If it's a data pin, no the USB 3.0 won't work. If it's something like a ground pin, of which there are several, it probably will still work. Personally, I'd RMA the board though.

Thanks. I looked it up, and it's pin10, the over current protection pin. Too dangerous to use without it :(

I think I'll just live with it instead of RMAing the motherboard though, considering money lost on shipping, time lost waiting, and time lost rebuilding. I still have the two USB 3.0 ports on the back to work with.

Here are a couple pictures of the finished system (minus graphics card):

Overall I'm pretty happy with how things went. Installing the CPU heatsink was definitely the most confusing part. The system is up and running now, with the CPU overclocked to 4.5ghz.

Thanks again for all the help :) Let me know if there's anything in particular you wanted a picture of or anything.

So far, yes :) Without a graphics card it's a little hard to judge, since that really limits what I can do with it. It's mainly just been web browsing and stress testing. I've really enjoyed the fast load of Windows while setting up overclocking.

I'm really glad I did this. It's the first time I really feel like I actually understand what's going on inside my computer.

With that much space it mustve been a breeze to install. I do have one complaint about the cable management though. The wires connecting the case to the motherboard overlap the motheboard corner a bit, looks a bit off. I'd rather route them via the lower right opening. You're probably going to have the PCIe cables routed via the mid part, blocking that opening even more.

have you ordered your 7870?
(newegg has them all OOS, wondering if you were able to jump on it)

Nope, never even knew newegg had them available. I thought they weren't going up for sale until tomorrow.

Sweet, got it, thanks :) Just need a few days for it to make its way here from Cali now.
