What's your current graphics card? What game(s) are you trying to play?

Right now you can get a 1080 for $499 along with a free copy of Shadow of War, if you want to play that game. That's a pretty sweet deal. There is some evidence of a GTX 1070Ti coming soon, which will likely be cheaper and offer a better ratio of price/performance. The 11-series (or 20-series) is likely to be another 6 months out...

Right now i have a gtx 1070, but i don't mind selling it. I play a bunch of games @1440p

i like to keep my pc up to date, i just want to know if it is a mistake to buy a gtx 1080 when supposedly the gtx 2070/80 are about to come out.

Thx for pointing out the deal on Shadow of war. is 499$ really a sweet deal?

In all honesty, you wouldn’t really be missing much if you waited for Nvidia’s next architecture to release. Pascal gives great performance at the 1070 and above level, so until Nvidia release their new series, you should be just fine. Unless you really REALLY want better performance. I still have a 980Ti and I’m fine with it. 😛 Won’t have the money for a 1080 or 1080Ti for a while.

I upgraded at an earlier point from a 1070 to a 1080Ti I got on sale for under $700 before tax, but at this point it may be better to wait, if you can. I would not upgrade to less than a 1080Ti though, if I were you, as a 1080 or 1070Ti is not a large enough upgrade IMO. So if you can get a good price on a 1080Ti, I would say go for it if you like, otherwise wait for something new, or at least a drop in current prices.

If you already have a GTX 1070, then upgrading to a 1080 would not really be worth it, like others have said. The 1080Ti would be a better buy, despite its higher price. I don't think you can get them for less than $749 new, but they come with a free game (Shadow of War).

Will we have a GTX 2070 early in 2018 with the same level of performance as the 1080ti for half the price? that is what i am a little worried about before i shell out 750-800$
