Advice Needed

Okay. I figured I would post it in here, you guys have always had good advice to give. Here is my situation, not a crisis, just don't know if there is a downside to this:

Alright, I'm 19. I moved in with my gf and her family back in August, paying them rent, have my own room, very happy. Had my own car until about a month ago a jerk pulled out in front of me. My car is being totaled out, and I am getting a new car with the insurance money.

Okay, here is the question. I am thinking about what I am going to do for insurance for my new car. My gf's mother has offered to put me under her name to save some money, but that would mean that I would have to put the car under her name. Is it worth the money I would be saving? I mean, are there any downsides to it at all? I know if I get into an accident, her insurance would go up, but she says she is willing to take that risk.

Recommendations?

Don't do it. Having financial ties to your g/f's mom? Recipe for disaster.

Be a man and be as independent as you possibly can....always.

Thanks Slvrth277, that is what I was leaning towards. I don't want to have anything keeping me there when I do plan to leave.

I can give you a little story dealing with a similar situation. My girlfriend had her car insurance on her ex's policy. She ended up getting into an accident while on his policy. She then got her own policy after they broke up. Well, the insurance companies fought it out and it was determined that she was only 20% at fault. Therefore, a check was written for 80% of her deductible to be returned to her.........but the check went to the policy holder. Her ex. He got the money instead of her.

Lesson learned.
