I need some advice...
I'm going to be putting together a new rig, since my P4 rig just up and died on me. So I'm looking into setting up the following rig

AMD 64 3200 90nm 939
Asus A8N-SLI
Maxtor 300GB SATA 16mb buffer
1GB memory
Audigy Z2 sound card

But the advice I need is on the video card. What should I do? Should I go w/ a 6600GT for now and add another later or should I fork up the cash now and get a better card? If I go w/ a better card which one? Any and all advice would be much appreicated. Thanks.

If it were me, I would go with the 6800GT and, when you have some more cash, THEN get another, or, go with a dual 6600GT now. Me, I'm stuck in an AGP world for now, so I don't have the SLI luxury, but, if I were to do it, I would probably go with the dual-6600GT setup.

By the way, what ever you do, DON'T buy an XFX graphics card, as you can read my awful story HERE.

Get one 6800gt. Its better than two 6600gt's plus you'll be able to get a second one later, once the price comes down.

the 6800gts won't be coming out until mid january. if you can wait, get the 6800 gt. it's my understanding the 6800 gt (NV45) pci-e lacks the video processor and the others below have them. im not certain, but i believe that is the case.

else:

either get two geforce 6600gt's ($400) or a single geforce 6800 NU for $340. I think the two 6600GTs are a better deal though, but if you got a 6800 NU now then you could put another in later.

OK, thanks for the advice all. But is the 6800 better than the ati x800's? If so, which 6800 do you guys recommend? I just need it to be pci-express. Thanks.

The X800 Pro Platinum is really good. Also for the HD... make sure it supports NCQ.
