Advice needed on old system sell price

Since I'm rebuilding my gaming rig I have no need of much of the left over parts. One of my co-workers expressed an interested in buying whats left. I have no desire to make a profit off this really, just want it out of my apartment and make some money back to put back into my new PC. Whats left after my salvage is:

15" Envision LCD (generic POS w/ 1024x768 max resolution)
P4 2.4Ghz with some MB (asus I think, keep forgetting to check) with onboard sound and NIC
512MB Ram
Some generic 52x cd-writer
Geforce4 MX (wouldnt probably charge more than $10 on that crap)

I believe thats it. Im thinking $125 for the lot? I consider the guy a friendly aquantince atm. I just started working here and he's been nice to me. I figure just to expidite getting this crap away from me and being nice, I'd go atleast 50% under market value. Any comments? Way to under? Way to over?

Id say 125 for all that is FAR too low.

The minimum should be at least $200, but hey...

I just figured $15 for the MX. $20 for the CD Writer. $40 for the RAM, $80 for the P4, $30 for the mobo, and $100 for the LCD. Sounds fair to me.

His co-worker is going to hate you. 🙂

He shouldn't know the difference 🙂, but you know what I quoted is fair.

Well, the LCD only cost me $200 new and its a good number of years old. I especially hate the POS and wasn't going to charge very much at all for it.

If the co-worker is a good friend, why not just give it to him? Problem with selling old stuff to people you know is God forbid, when things go wrong (or breaks) then relations get strained.

I would (and have) give the thing away. If I really need the $$, then your original price sounds good. The $200 price is fair also, but just not to a friend.

He isn't a "good" freind, just someone who went out of his way to make me feel welcome to a new(and first for me, just graduated college) job. The only thing that I would worry about failing is the PSU and I'm not sure if I'm going to include the case/PSU with the lot. My computer as is does random reboots(cheap PSU issue, i know i know. dont skimp on PSU - I didn't know that then). The rest is "hunky doory" and have had no trouble with any of it.

On a side note to all this. If I don't sell this to someone locally then it will probably just sent in my closet collecting dust.

I think you already knew your answer.
It's giving you random reboots, you think it's the PSU, but maybe it's something else?
Anyway, since it's flaky already, even giving away is too risky (since this is a co-worker from your new workplace).

I'd give it away to relatives or nephews - and wouldn't risk ruining relationship with a co-worker

Depending on the case, type of memory, and other things considered. The high end for this piece should be roughly $300.00. The low would be $200.00.
I'll buy it for $150.00 if you like.

Why is that the only people who say the above quote are guys who post like 100 messages a day? Don't you have anything better to do than say crap that has no relation to the topic? Let the mods deal with it. I'm sick of reading the above or "its already been posted before" messages. People actually go so out of their way to find a simular post and post something stupid like "it was already posted 3 years ago, why didn't you do a search before you posted this message?" And they go as far as creating links to the post just to prove they can search! Stop being a cop and let him be!

Ok, rant over. 🙂

Uh...this is a guy asking how much his used parts are worth, how much we think he should sell them for; I thought that was alright.

I too dislike it when others do this. There really is no point and what harm is there in posting something that has been answered a long time ago, maybe some people don't like searching a million times to find a specific issue addressed.

He's not doing any freakin price checks, he's asking for advice. This guy needs to get a life.

Price checks are against rules on FS/FT, as I understand it. Then again, I can't say that I've actually taken time to read each and every rule...

Besides, my past price checks (for a similar scenario involving a laptop) weren't criticized by anyone for rule breaking when I used the General HW forum. This thread isn't even as much about a price check as you make it out to be anyway.

Edit: If you do decide to give it to the co-worker, make sure to make it clear to him that the machine has a history of flakiness.

Price checks are not allowed in GH, FS/T, or any other part of the Forums. It's a common faux pas and I haven't seen anyone do it again after one heads-up, that I can recall. Don't bash nick1985 for being the guy to give the heads-up, I would've done the same (except I would make sure to include a 🙂 with it).

Personally, I think $125 is low, and you're selling yourself short. I've sold far lesser systems for $100-125 this past summer, and the people who bought them thought I was being more than fair. Still, if you want to sell it for $125 you're giving him one heck of a deal and doing someone a good turn usually comes back around to you again.

$200 is a reasonable price. The system doesn't seem like crap to me, just some of the parts are entry-level.

And you should have left it up to the Mods to tell him instead of being a forum cop.

BTW guys, nick1985 has PM'ed me with vulgarities, should I play forumcop like him and post all over the forum how it is against the rules to curse on the forums and in PMs? Very mature, nick1985.

I'm new to this or any other chat site so pardon me for breakijng any protocols. I just installed a 1.44 MB floppy into a Dell 3000. Since I bought it without the floppy drive the computer does not recognize the drive. What are the steps I need to do to initalize the floppy drive so I can use it?
