Advice needed!!! New CPU/MOBO combo slow

Fear

Hey all.I need some advice on fixes for my probs. I just purchased an AMD 1100 mhz 100fsb CPU,and an A-Bit KT7A-RAID MOBO,and 512 mb of ram.I have an VisionTek GeForce 3 vid-card.My system is way slow compared to my old system.(AMD 550 mhz slot A CPU,ASUS K7M-RM MOBO,and 448 mb ram.) I had the G3 vid card in old system also.I thought that this upgrade would net me some big gains in benchmarking programs but it hasn't.This upgrade is only slightly faster than my old system. In 3D Mark 2001 I only gained about 1700 points with this upgrade. The RAID is disabled on new MOBO.If anyone can help me tweak this baby in for better performance, then kudos to you.I've exhausted my last brain cell on this.

BTW: my new mobo is a VIA KT133A chipset

This belongs in Motherboards or in General Hardware.

First and most obvious question to ask you is have you tweaked your bios out yet? Have you installed the latest Via 4-in-1 patch yet? Did you install DX 8.1?

Here's a critical question: did you do a clean install of your OS after you put the new mobo and chip in?

try reposting in General hardware. you'll get more replies, and this forum isn't for tech support (as it says in the note at the top)

thx for the reply....I do have the latest VIA 4 in 1 drivers(4.35),i did do a clean install of my OS(98 SE) when i installed the mobo and CPU and I also have DX 8.1. I have tweaked the BIOS some, but I'm relatively new to changing the BIOS.And there are alot of changes you can make in BIOS with an A-Bit KT7A-Raid board...

Thx much bro...that site link hlps a bunch, btw, today i found my prob.the IDE controller was bad from purchase(i've only had board for 6 days).so hopefully things go smoother.Fear out........
