I need to squeak a few more months out of my Dell 866 XPSb ( 512 RD RAM). (XP Pro)
I'm mapping with the unreal Editor and need to see /utilize some of the newer features (projections etc.) which my nVidea GeForce 2 Ultra can't see. Frame rates are not that important, rendering is.
The problem is Dell's propriotory power supply, which, because of it's connectors, is not easily upgraded.
The power supply installed is 200 watts.
I had a 9700Pro installed but it crapped out and crashed my puter often...faulty card. I had a secondary drive disconected so I don't think it was a power issue.

My preference is to stay with nVidia rather than ATI.
Most of the new cards require about 300-450 watts.
I am able to purchase a Leadtek FX 5700LE 256MB card for $180.00 Cdn.

Is this a good card? I read that the first 5700's were noisy.
I also see that the 5700 performs in some areas close to the 9700Pro. It also only require 250 watts , so that should not be a problem, at least that is what I've been told.

Any suggestions will be appreciated... I need to finish a map and take advantage of the latest Editor improvements.

Thanx,

Robert

whoever told you that a 5700LE proformed close to a 9700pro is lied to you. A 9700pro is better than the 5700 in every aspect. For under 180 canadian a 9700np/pro is the best card you can get.

first of all, most of the newest cards require a minimum 300-350w PS but are way out of your price range. ;).

The cheaper 9600 series would also provide DX9 support the older cards don't. The 9700p is a good card and should work on your dell (make sure it is getting the correct voltage to the AGP) . . .

if you bought it new it is still under warranty, rma it
