i would have told him, install all four (4) New tires, and balance what you can,and call me when you get the weights in,and i will come back.

The newer tires, normally need so little weight its not critical to the tire wear, for balancing.

Go in person, and complain, nicely to the Auto center Manager,Before you go,call the main store,
and Ask for the main store Managers name, write it down, and have it handy when you see
the Auto center mngr. ;)

suck it up, I think things could be worse, it was just bad circumstances, you think they wanted to sit there working on the same car for 3 hours? mistakes happen. I guess you wont be thankful until you REALLY get shltted on.

Getting tire work done takes f-in forever. I doubt they'll do anything for you, maybe a discount on your tires or some form of a roadhazzard discount. Of course, RoadHazzard just means you'll be stuck going there next time you get screwed, or vice versa.

Wha? When I got my tires replaced at costco it took about one hour max.. the old guy was really really nice by that way I know I wasn't getting ripped off. If you have a costco around you try them the service is great. I've had my tires popped twice and both times they replaced it with no questions asked..

Costco has great prices, and no pressure sales. Their roadhazzard isn't a ripoff, etc. But, because of all that, I have yet to bring a car there and have the wait be < 2hrs. They take forever. The first two times I brought cars there, it was 1hr from the time they rang me up.

Now, 2hrs isn't that bad for 4 tires, but, you still have to wait 2hrs to get a tire patched there as well. And that just sucks. They could really use an extra person.

Also, one time I brought my wifes car in for tires, they needed rotating and balancing. I left it, went shopping at costco, and came back about an hour later and they said they were done. I left. The next day, her father had it up on a lift for a different problem and noticed that the treads were down to the core on one tire. Had they actually taken the tires off and rotated them they should have seen that and told me to get new tires. In reality, they were busy and just lied about it. Before then I thought they were a great value, not anymore. Gotta keep an eye on EVERYONE. They are still good for the price, just watch what they do!

That is pretty F'ed up. most tire/wheel combos take less than 6 oz's of weight to balance unless they are really FUBARed. I find it very hard to believe they were out of weights.

On top of it, you can patch a tire with zero tread. You can patch it if it is worn to the point the belts are showing. They probably wouldn't for legal reasons, but it is possible. The patch chemicly bonds to the rubber of the tire. As long as there is rubber to bond to you can patch it.

He must not have been giving you the whole story, and the guys in the shop were stupid.

oh, i just noticed a little balancing weight on the outside of my rear right rim. i know he took that tire off (the only tire he didnt take off was the rear left one). why is that weight there? was it cuz he messed up the rim or that my old tire was "off balance"? and if its supposed to be there, is it ok that he used a weight on the outside when my car uses the sticky weights which go on the inside?

Then that tire had a weight added.

It was out of ballance because it was so old. Also, the weights need to come off when the tires are put on or it can damage the tire/rim.

Your car had the sticky weights from the factory. 99% of tire shops use the lip type that get pounded on. The shop probably should have removed the factory sticky weights depending on location on the rim, and where the balancer was saying to add weight.

That's BS man, I've never had to wait more than an hour for 4 tires. Competition is good, there are many places near me that I can go to get tires. I go by price, brand and service.

Call and complain to the manager. If he doesn't do anything tell him you want the name and number of his manager. Be polite but also be firm-tell them over and over again how much you were inconvenienced and put off by the entire ordeal. If you don't get results you can always go farther up the ladder. Most of the time just mentioning this course of action will get results.
