Advice in developing Global Text Messaging API

Hi All,

I'm thinking of developing a Global SMS Web service, so that people could build text messaging functionality into their own websites/applications, and just wanted to gauge interest. Do you guys develop applications using Web services and do you think such an API would be valuable?

The Web service would allow a user to text message almost any one in the world without having to know the carrier information of the recipient.

Any resources in this field would also be great. Thanks for your help!
