Watch out for that advice for other cards. Different manufactuors use different adheasives and for the GForce the freeze trick hasn't worked out in a few cases I know of. I modded my V5 this way too and it worked great but not sure about other cards. This link actualy uses a GF card in example

You may not want to go snapping bits off your card with a screwdriver there are more passive solutions.

You could use a PCI slot type cooler these usualy fill the slot below your card and blow cool or suck away warm air depending on the type. Theres a few different examples
HEREmixed in with some drive coolers. The interesting new ones hook to your PCI slots screws and blow on the side like
This.
The last example is as close as you can get to a side intake without cutting a hole in your case but it only circulates air already warmed in your case. That is anouther option or you could add a bottom front intake if your case doesnt have one and has the space for one. This will blow in cool air in the general direction of your cards and will help too.
The options are pretty much endless as someone is either trying something new or putting a twist on something old everyday.
