Drug reactions is very very serious stuff. I used to work in reprographics and I worked on accident scene photos and medical malpractice photos. There was this one case against a doctor who prescribed some medication and did tell the patient that it could have a reaction when mixed with simple asprin. Unfortunately the guy took some aspirin and it cooked the entire top layer of skin. I kid you not, if you ever seen hell raiser when the dude was trying to get his skin back, thats what this guys skin looked like. And it was permanent. He looked like someone just peeled all of the skin off of him. It was really really sad, young dude too.

I've seen TONS of med reactions thanks to me working as an emeregency room nurse.

If I had to rate some of the weirdest are dystonic reactions to atypical antipsychiatic meds. Seriously it usually mimics a stroke in most people.

Reglan/Compazine which are used as anti-nausea/anti-vomiting meds cause a type of anxiety reaction where the person can't sit still and fill extremely jittery/nervous/angry.

The WORST, absolute WORST med reaction I've seen is angioedema, caused by a certain type of high blood pressure meds called ACE inhibitors. It basically causes massive mucosal and skin swelling, it's more or less always life-threatening and many times we have to intubate the patient just to maintain any sort of airway.

Cheers to an ED nurse.

The new ED at my hospital is opening in a week and a half. 33 beds, separate pysch area that can be locked down (3 rooms) for restraint/seclusion, a conference room, two nice lounges, much bigger rooms (all singles, no bays with curtains anymore), etc. It's going to be fantastic. Oh, and it's beautiful, too. I'm pretty pumped.

I get angioedema if I DON'T take medication. heh.

Anyway, I've seen my share of bad reactions to medication. My grandma was hospitalized repeatedly for taking NSAIDS. A normal dose would make her blood pressure drop so low she nearly died. My mom reacts to a lot of meds too. I remember having to call her doctor when I was a kid, asking him what I should do because Mom took some cold medicine and couldn't stay awake.
