I decided to tackle this mod after seeing mechBgon's pictures. I didn't end up doubling up the sleeving material like mech' but it turned out quite nice - yellow sleeving with black heat shrink on the ends. Unfortunately, I did end up blowing up one component after realizing that I had inserted the yellow wire where it should have been the red wire in the molex connector. Luckily, it was only a DVD ROM drive which gives me the impetus to get a replacement drive which does DAE at a faster speed. I was also quite fortunate to be able to turn off the power before my hard drives powered up because I noticed that one of the molex connectors on my hard drive was wired up in the incorrect manner.

Here are a couple of tips for people who want to take on this mod:

  1. I used a pencil to help feed the red, black and yellow wires through the loom. The sharpened end goes in first, and, if you have to, tape the wires to the eraser end of the pencil.

  1. After disconnecting the middle molex connectors, bend them and tape them back so the bare connectors don't snag on the sleeving. I even taped the connectors with masking tape as well as the folded over wires so the sleeving could slip over the extra wires that much more easier.

  1. Tea lights work great if you don't have anything handy or hot enough to shrink the heat-shrink tubing; I found a 1600 watt hair dryer ineffective.

  1. If you do use an open flame to shrink the heat-shrink tubing, you may want to get black sleeving. :D

  1. Last but not least, make sure the yellow and red wires are in the correct position in the molex connector before powering up.

All-in-all, this is a great mod, and quite honestly, not that difficult. All you need is a little bit of patience and you will be rewarded with a neat and organized computer.
