Anbody remember from the '70s when Advent made great low end speakers?

Despite their low price back then, they used fine components. A friend temporarily moved into my house during his divorce and A-B compared my Advent bookshelf speakers ($250) to his to his tower speakers costing about several times the price. He was stunned that there was little difference. Of course that may reflect many factors.

Until they wore out (8" speaker cone edge-material disintegrated after 25 years!) they were very good. There doesn't seem to be a comparable replacement these days.

I bought a set of these 2 years back or so for around $100. Sound quality was ok, but reception was horrible. I could get reception tuned in from most of my house, but even if I moved a foot or two I would start getting static. If I walked around they really sucked. I ended up returning them. I have looked and I don't think there is such a thing as good, cheap wireless headphones.

I have these headphones and use them for exercise. Mine were $39 on eBay a couple of years ago.

They are just "OK" -- the reception area is good for cordless phones, but even so, I'll get flashes of static from 15' away. Just turning in a circle will invariably get you static. They are OK, not too bright, for rock music, but they sound muddy for classical or anything "audiophile." They do get really loud, which seems to be unusual for cordless.

$30-40 is about what they are worth. They don't have nearly the sound quality of $15 Koss SportaPro's (corded), for one example -- but the cordless feature is worth some compromise. These do have replaceable batteries and a built-in charger, and I've put NiMH in mine.

In sum: I would never, ever use these for intense music listening, but for doing housework/laundry/exercise/making dinner/etc. they come in handy.

I'm not sure that really good cordless headphones exist until you get up to the $300+ range models that have digital transmission. I've heard some $150 Sennheisers that were unimpressive.

These work just fine. The technology is not perfect, and may never be..... but I use these with excellent results for the kids on trips where they watch dvds/play pc games on the road. I like wireless headsets on the road, as it makes traveling on the road much easier than using wired accessories. JMO

Who owns the Advent brand these days? Did Labtec buy them out, or Logitech, or what? (Or did Labtec buy Advent, and Logitech bought Labtec? I Forget.)

I have a pair of older sets of Advent multimedia speakers, ones with a triangular shape, and dual 2" and 3" cones in each unit. For the price, they are one of the best-sounding sets of speakers that I've ever had hooked up to my computer. I remember seeing the exact same model being used at tradeshow conventions, back in the day, so if they were being used for professional exhibit applications, then you know that they were pretty good. That was back when Bungie introduced their first FPS for 68K color Macs, at Macworld Boston.

I know nothing about their headphones, or who even makes them these days.

A little OT, but I picked up the Pioneer SE-DIR800C surround headphones a few months ago and they're awesome. I do almost all my movie watching with them and they are as good as my mid-range surround set up.

They can be found ~$300 and are well worth that. It comes with one pair of phones and a Dolby/DTS decoder/transmitter.

Recoton owns them. They also bought Jensen at the same time.
