I really don't know much there in the way of advantages. Can't I still shop at the Microsoft Store without creating a Microsoft Account?
But I've had my Microsoft Account ever since I first installed Windows 10. I got used to having it.
When you installed Windows 10, the program would ask you whether you were a single consumer-user or "a school or business". Because I have always had a LAN connecting my computers with local accounts and passwords, I would make the latter selection. But I was able to integrate my local accounts, the WORKGROUP, and a single Microsoft Account.
HOWEVER. Now that I've installed Win 11 as an upgrade to Win 10 Pro, I made that "business or school" choice, and now I can't logon to my longstanding Microsoft Account from this computer. Nor does my computer by "computer name" for the Win 11 system show up in my Microsoft Account logged on at a different computer. It had been listed by computer-name in my MS account group of devices under Windows 10. But with Windows 11 -- no more!
Before I try to troubleshoot this and make it possible to use this Win 11 computer to logon to my Microsoft account, I observe a few things -- among them that many tech-veterans here consider it a badge of merit for managing to install your Windows OS WITHOUT a Microsoft Account.
Could I do just as well -- for this computer -- to live without being able to sign in to my MS account? What ADVANTAGES are there to having a Microsoft Account? When I first went through the hoops of setting up an MS account way back when I first installed Windows 10, I may have had the same question: What GOOD is a Microsoft Account?
Any thoughts? Any diagnoses?
