Advance Auto Parts, at least my local store's manager, must be on crack.........

I got one of the Mobil Clean 5000 "checks" and went in this morning to "cash" it.

I walk up to the counter with my 5 quarts of Mobil Clean 5000 and hand over the "check" to the clerk. He looks baffled and calls over the manager. Before I can utter a word, the manager, in an authorative voice, states "We don't accept two-party checks."

I look at him like he's an idiot, which he apparently is. I ask him how is it a two-party check?

"Well, it's got your name on it, therefore it's a two-party check."

Now, this check does have my name on it.......says "Prepared especially for Jeff."

But, in the line that says PAY TO THE ORDER OF: It has "Mobil Clean 500 Retailer."

I ask him is his store a Mobil 5000 retailer as they must be since I have 5 quarts sitting on his counter. I then proceed to tell him it was a limited national promotion for the oil when he says "I CAN READ!!" in just that voice.

Obviously he cannot comprehend what he reads, because he grudgingly accepts it is made out to a retailer and not me, but then says "It's not on our sale sheet."

I'm dumbfounded. Of course it's not on your sale sheet.......it's not a slae you're putting on. It's a G**DAMN PROMOTION being run by MOBIL!!

He says he has to call corporate to verify if it's real and valid and if he can accept it. I have the attached letter the check came with and not even that would change his mind.

I snatch the check out of his hand and tell him AutoZone, just down the street, would probably be more than happy to take it (which they were......no hassles at all, jsut took the check, geave me the oil in a bag, and out the door I went in less than 2 minutes from entering the store), and started to leave.

He yells, "HEY!! Don't leave yet......." and I cut him off by saying this has got to be the most dumbassed store I've ever been in and shall never return and shall make it a point to tell anyone and everyone I know how ignorant they most certainly are.

Just had to rant..............hate utter and sheer stupidity in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary belief being spouted.

I caused a 20 mintue pile up at Wal-Mart with mine... but I expected it and was paitent. You were just being a dick... You have to remember that people don't see things like that every day and will need to run all sorts of checks to make sure it is valid and see how to record it properly into their inventory system.

Ya, you were a dick. You come in with a coupon that he's never seen before, and you get bitchy when he tries to verify it, while having to deal with your condescending attitude at the same time? Must be that time of the month....

I just love how threads here backfire on the OP. Makes for some good reading. Makes me afraid to post.

...not to mention you WILL be back in there when AutoZone and NAPA don't have your part in stock, but they do.

It's for that same reason I didn't go off on the f-tard at AutoZone, when he didn't have a part in stock after I came to pick it up, when he told me over the phone they did have it. I know I'll be going back there at some point in time.

meh, I side with the OP...the manager still sounded like a dumbass...even if he had to follow procedure, he didn't have to do it the way he did.

Nope........this manager is a butthead of major proportions. I bought a set of spark plugs at another Advance Auto parts, in Sylvania, Ga. They're about 40 miles apart and I didn't feel like going back to the Sylvania, GA store when I was in Statesboro. I had receipt and just wanted to exchange for another brand, which was more expensive.

Would not do it. I know same company stores can take any same company store product back in return/exchange. So, I went back to the original Advance store the next day. THAT manager was very surprised to hear the other store manager wouldn't accept the plugs. He even showed me the screen on the return part section that the store employee puts in the original store number, invoice, etc. It's just this store that's the butthead, not me.

And I wasn't being a dick about it.........I've still got bronchitis, still running fever, had to get animal food or let them starve and just was doing this as a side trip. I expect SERVICE from a service industry, not a hassle, especially when presented with the FULL LETTER that the check came with explaining exactly what very circle and arrow was in full detail to the manager.

If I KNEW I'd never be back in the store, I'd probably go ape, and make the dickhead manager suffer as much as possible. There are ways...

I don't quite think I'll really need to go back to that Advance. Too many other choices that are viable....the aforementioned AutoZone, 2 NAPAs, 1 CarQuest, two other Advance AutoParts stores, 4 dealers (yes, dealers actually stock parts that are sometimes quite competitive in price), so I'm not very limited to THAT Advance.....thank God.

ya, but if something looks legit, and with a risk as minimal as a bit of motor oil, I wouldn't see myself calling "corporate". I'd understand it if a manager wanted to verify something before sinking a few hundred dollars, but an oil change is spare change to the store...

As a mechanic what I and others do is ask them to "put your hand on it" when I call for soemthing I am going to get. Parts places get so many people price checking that they go by the inventory system that the screen says. So the system says one, but if you are REALLY going to get it then say "put your hand on it" and ask for their name.
