Adults-only cinemas coming back into fashion.

I believe we call them porn theaters around here. 😉

Make sure you bring gloves and watch out for pee-wee herman.

I just want an Alamo Drafthouse here.

That didn't take long... lol. Seriously love this place. They've started doing assigned seating now for most shows as well. No longer are you going to show up an hour early and still get a shitty seat.

movies in theaters ... hmm maybe when we don't have kids around we'll have some interest in doing that again. It's just of no interest to me unless it goes back to $6 a ticket.

While they are at it, will they show rated R versions of PG-13 movies? 😛 That could be interesting.

I know I hear all over the internet how horrible the theater experience is...and I just haven't seen it in my area. In fact, when it is bad, it's usually the adults not the teens. Contrary to popular belief, teens are not the only inconsiderate people out there.

they expanded from austin to northern virginia! winchester is too far for me, but once the ashburn location opens up im definitely going to check it out. best theater experience imo.

I doubt they will ever bring one here, but even if they could bring one to Seattle I could go there for a quick road trip on occasion.

I'd be happy to pay for no-child theaters, whether they serve booze or not - as long as they have comfy seats for tall people. I'd rather wait four or six months to see a movie than be trapped in a horrible seat for 90 minutes with some kid in front of me who wants to text all thru the movie.

No loud kids & teenagers. Alcohol served. Decent meals. Better seating. Maybe that'll work.

Only adults-only cinemas I remember were the softcore porn theatres in the 70s.

sounds like the movie theaters i went to in Germany.

I did notice that the AMC multiplex near me now has a "bar" with draft beer taps. i went for a early movie so the "bar" was not open. now im curious if i can buy a beer and take it in the theater.

Funny that we are having to pay more if we want to have a decent experience at the theater now because other people can not properly raise their children.

i went to a ritz theater to see "thank you for smoking." i think their policy was no kids under 13(?) after a certain time.

tickets were more pricey, but easily one of the nicest theaters i've been to, and it was definitely worth it.

Had to look up the Alamo draft house. It sounds pretty similar to a place called the Commodore in Portsmouth, Va. You can sit down order food and beer while you enjoy your movie. Had a pretty cool experience watching the re-release of Star Wars there.

We have an AMC dine in theater that does assigned seating. I love it, like you said no more having to wait in line for a good seat. The food isn't anything to write home about but the theater itself is. Nice full reclining seats, and no one under 18, so no more screaming baby.

There's one in Burlington, ON, which isn't too far from me. I've yet to go. Costs quite a bit more than a regular ticket but I love the idea of there being no kids and parents in the theatre. People are pigs these days. Plus you can drink a beer at your seat.

I think drive-in theatres are due for a comeback. They're perfect for families. You're in your own little soundproof bubble.

The theater that I usually go to has a 21-and-older section that serves food and alcohol. I prefer sitting up there as it's balcony seating, which means no matter where you are, you're always "in the back." If I had to complain about anything, I would say that while the seats are nicer, they aren't that good. The theater that I used to visit in New York recently put in La-Z-Boys, which blows these stiff leather chairs (worse than a crappy $50 Staples office chair) out of the water. Also, some of the food is absolutely nauseating. I forget which movie it was, but I was sitting next to this lady, and I was tempted to turn to her and ask what she was eating. I was going to say, "Thanks... now I know to never get that." 😛 I think it was some sort of nachos with salsa, because it had a ridiculously pungent cilantro smell.

We need more places like that, too bad it won't catch on too far since kids bring in a ton of revenue to theaters because they cause parents to buy overpriced concessions.

We have a Cinebarre and a Gold Class Cinemas here around the Seattle area. I've only been to Gold Class, and it was a really fun experience, even though a bit pricey. Makes for a good movie date, IMO -- and I know, I know... movies generally make bad dates (or first dates, at least) but they also have a lounge area where you can talk and interact etc...

Still a band-aid on a bullet wound. The movie theater industry is dying and this won't save it. The home theater experience keeps getting better and it keeps getting cheaper.
