ADSL WAN Interface Enquiry

After turning on my router for a long time, the internet is getting slow. I found that the internet is back to normal after pressing 'disconnect' button and then 'connect' button at ADSL WAN Interface from my router page. Why is it like this? I'm using TD-W8980.
 
I could see a router going south doing this. Years ago Zone Alarm used to do something like this, but I don't remember a disconnect/ reconnect alone fixing that.
